Kit is in. Hardest part was figuring out how to get through the firewall. One thing it noticed. When in reverse or with the switch thrown to the rear, the bottom led lights up. When i flip the switch to the front, both leds light up. Anyone else encounter this? It's minor, and I don't care much. Just curious if I installed something wrong. Otherwise the kit works great and I am very happy with it

Yes, when I installed it both lights comes on with front cam on. When switching it off, it shows a split second of the rear view.

I check on their website and it’s totally normal.

 

Update: My Nikita camera was defected. Driving it the past week, the camera works 20% of the time I press the button. I went ahead and tried another camera and it works. How frustrating.

 

Got my kit installed today. Before installing I had laid everything out on the work bench. I labeled all the wiring so that made it easier at install time. I work slow, take my time so I probably spent 4 to 5 hours installing and making all the wiring neat and tucked out of view. The backlight illumination and dimming works great. Switch lights up with my other switches and dims with them also. The blue lighting is not a match for the stock lighting but it is very close. Close enough that it does not bother me.

 

Finally installed it and its working fine. The online video I watched showed connecting the red wire to the fuse but the install instruction say keep it isolated (for premium camera). For now, I am not connected to any fuse. Do I need to?

 

If you followed the wiring diagram, you don’t need to.

 

from what i understand on 2020+ that red wire coming from the premium camera is isolated. only if you have the standard camera is that wire ran to the camera switch.

 

If your truck is a pre-2020 and have premium camera you don’t need the red wire. Instructions says to just tuck it away and keep it isolated from other wires.

 

I didn’t realize when switching it off, for a split second it switches to rear view. When I was checking out my install that happened so fast I did not notice it. After reading your post I went and double checked it and sure enough it switched to rear view. It happens so fast I can live with it the same as both amber lights come on when in front view mode.

 

reviewed my kit today to do the installation this weekend. i just realized that my kit didnt come with installation instructions, which is ok i guess. i found this wire diagram from the anytime camera website and was curious if you all followed the same diagram and if there's anything i should be mindful of? i will be installing the premium camera so i guess im connecting that lonesome red wire to the green wires from relay and switch? otherwise looks straight forward to me....will be using an add a fuse for power. thanks in advance

 

i guess i should say im installing in a 2021 trd sport.

 

also i may be an idiot but what red wire is the additional red wire? if its the one coming from the rca cable then dont these instructions contradict itself (per the red box around the statement "CONNTECT TO GREE WIRES AT SWITCH (PREMIUM CAMERA ONLY)?

 

I think they are talking about the little red one that is with the black, otherwise they wouldn't mention the black wire when saying that

If you have the premium camera, then ignore your blue line completely, it doesn’t apply.

The yellow arrow you drew goes to the green wire coming off the video switcher relay. This is the only mismatched colors you’ll connect. Also, the red wire coming off the camera itself is not used and should be sealed off to prevent shorting.

if you have the standard camera, then it is the blue arrow you drew and ignore everything else I said above.

 

Thanks for this. Quick question: I do have the premium camera and I’m installing on 2021 taco. Why do I ignore blue wire? That diagram mentions that blue and gray are for backlight and for 2020+...

 

He said your blue line not the blue wire, he's talking about the Blue line you drew on the picture

Just did a premium camera install on a 2021 SR. You dont have to use the add a switch. The red wire that you would have connected to the add a fuse needs to be left alone. I taped it and bundled it with rest of the wire.
