Try doing two in a year. I didn’t find out the Mazda was a total loss until Day 23-24.

I added the new car replacement option after the Tacoma and it paid big time. I ended up with MSRP+sales tax on the Mazda. They fought me on destination, and eventually settled for half but paid for the remote start I installed when I bought it. I think my net gain was like $4,500 or so. It was the only reason we could justify the JGC at the time. (No comments from the peanut gallery on that one).

My dad is a Chevy guy, I had one also and liked it well enough. For the half tons, I don’t like how the bow ties drive compared to the Fords. I wasn’t interested in buying a half ton Ram.
When I started looking at 3/4 ton trucks, I still didn’t want a Ram at the time although after seeing and riding in one, i’m still not keen on the 6.4 with MDS but they ride nice and the interiors are nice as well. Initially, I bought a gasser. In that market, the Ford 6.2 had the Chevy 6.0 beat 6 ways to Sunday and I liked the Ford cabin better than the others. When it comes to a diesel, I’d gladly own a Duramax but I still like Ford’s cabin better and Ford’s diesel is the top of the food chain for power because, why not.

If I was going to go full size right now I'd go Ford.

No need for a huge powerplant so that's the only real reason I would consider a Dodge.
Like the Tundra but way expensive.
Never again will I buy a GM as my daily after owning my 2006 Colorado.

if I was buying a 1/2 I’d be in an f150 hands down. 1/4 If I had to do it again there’s a high chance I’d be in a ranger or frontier instead. Not a fan of the current offerings by Chebby. Hell if I had to buy a 1/4 again today knowing what I know now and having checked off the Tacoma on my bucket list I’d probably be in a used ranger or frontier.

My parents had several Fords and they treated us well. They also had one GMC S15 Jimmy and that thing was awful, seemed like a new repair every couple weeks. So, that was strike one. It was a sample size of one so not fair to judge but it was always in the back of my mind. I later heard of a colleague who was stranded in Virginia because his Silverado blew the ECU at 20k, my cousin was on his third rear end in his 2500HD because the G80 locker grenaded two, so those situations didn't help their case as I was looking to replace my Tacoma.

Strike two was the interior and exterior styling. I loved the way Super Duties looked ever since I was too young to drive so when they made the F-150 look more like them (prominent headlights, stepped window, stamped tailgate) I loved it. The newer GM truck interiors feel claustrophobic with poor visibility due to the short windows and high bed. The interiors also reminded me too much of my friend's mom's late 90s Grand Prix.

The final strike was the drivetrain. I never liked the 5.3 a whole lot because to me it feels lazy. I drove a Ford 2.7 and it was a night and day comparison. At the time, a 6.2 or 3.5 Ecoboost weren't really considerations. I would still be happy with a 2.7 today except finding the options I wanted was nearly impossible so I took the engine I could get.

I will say GM gives you more for your money. They have a lot on the LT trim that you need to jump to a Lariat to get in a Ford. Ford improved that a lot for 2021, but some things like 4 auto are still Lariat and up only while GM puts that on almost everything.

I will also add that the Fords aren't perfect. I have had a few factory issues on both trucks right off the bat, and interior rattles/fit and finish can be annoying. I don't think GM is any better there but Toyota sure is. Despite that, I could see myself buying a third F150 eventually. The hybrid is very cool.

    Some stuff

I'm the odd one out. Still have the Tacoma, but, it sat for a year.. just started driving it again last month(red truck needs oil change).
She prefers the Tacoma over the Grand Cherokee, so, will likely just sell that when this is all over.

But, I went back to the "devil I know", and bought another Frontier. Simple. Less stuff (gadgets) correct number of pedals:burnrubber:, reliable... built in the US..

I've had plenty of oval and bowtie rides for work... they're all junk now. We had a fleet of ecoboost vans. We have 2 left. Tons of issues.
Current Chevy got a new trans at 55k, and the new one is slipping, shift flare, blah blah at almost 90k. Constant vibration, rattling the shelves loose.

With the most recent tune I loaded in the Tacoma, I don't mind driving it.
But, overall, I'm not impressed. Its NICER than the my Frontier, but, not better.
That being said, I'll keep both of these before I buy a newer "American Truck"
If I NEEDED a full size, Titan or Tundra. Unless I needed something 3/4 -1ton.

Besides, we all know bikes are better....:stirthepot:
    Definitely more fun...

I'm making the rounds through the brands. So far the bowtie FUCKED me. Blue oval is still in orientation but it's promising so far.

This I can confirm. My f150 drives much tighter and smoother than my Sierra did. One thing I will say.. I'm not 100% sold on this truck being aluminum. It does almost everything better than the Sierra except tow, and I think the weightless, aluminum rear end has something to do with it. But I'm also no longer on 10 ply tires, so when I change out my current OEM tires on the f150 to my 10ply Michelin LTX At2's I'll have to re-evaluate.

When I still had my 150, I did feel like the back end was 'squishy'. I ended up putting Sumo Springs on the rear (like Timbrens, just an extended, load carrying bump stop) and also went to 20" wheels so I got a shorter sidewall. That made for a more comfortable towing experience although, mine was a '13 so prior to the aluminum body swap.

Factory rear shocks on the F150 are horrible. I put Bilsteins on my 2018 and going to the 2020 without them was a jarring experience. That might be worth a try.

I bet when I get my 10 plys it will be stiffer. Maybe the swap to 20's is worth considering.

Really, it rides great when not hooked, so I'm suprised. Maybe I will add a shock upgrade to the list. I still haven't towed the boat, just the enclosed trailer but will do so this weekend, have to see how that goes.

Got the QX56 back this morning. Had a loaner QX50, turbo 4 with a cvt and way to much tech. I was confused on how to even put it in park at first, pretty sure it was left in neutral the first night lol. Settings and adjustments were annoying. Felt pretty quick. 270ish HP and torque. Self driving safety tech worked pretty good on the highway but in city streets was awful. Wouldn't let me get close to anybody. Also economy mode was dangerous, literally didn't allow for acceleration lol

Hmm, f150 in eco mode is still relatively quick.

The wife's civic and rogue were both perfectly fine in eco mode. This thing was dangerous at intersections

I was amazed at the transformation my little 2.7 had when I meant to put it into 'toad hall' but tapped the button twice and put it into 'sport' instead.

My 250 has Sport mode, not really sure what it does exactly. I think on mine, it's more traction control and somewhere between 'off' and not as intrusive. I put 'off' in quotes because I've learned that it's never truly off unless you pull some fuses and override some electronic crap.

On the F150 (at least in '16) if I remember right it changed the transmission mapping (tightened up the shift intervals, held gears longer, delayed an upshift if you let off the gas, downshifted more aggressively, etc) and dialed back the traction control. But since it held it in max boost pretty much all of the time, it was a whole different beast than it was in normal driving mode.

My truck is silly in Sport mode, it's possible this beast is the quickest 4 wheel vehicle I have ever owned. Which doesn't really say much, I've never been into fast cars at all. But my god, I put it in Sport mode and I was impressed. And it's not even as quick as the 3.5EB- Joe, your truck must seriously SCOOT!

Ha, it's fun. I think the 2.7 is actually very slightly quicker to 60, then the 3.5 eventually takes the lead. My 3.5 has more passing power than the 2.7 but off the line they feel similar.

Picked this up tonight. 6.5' x 12'. Think I'm going to redo all of the wiring and maybe the lights (not crazy about the brake/directionals being on the ramps) and paint it black. Pulled nice and easy for the 100 miles back home. I'll grab better pictures when it isn't so dark:
