I purchased out of town. 200 miles so far. But what’s up with 15 MPG or so? I tried both highway and city driving. Tacoma is advertised 18/22 MPG and now I don’t expect to consistently hit those numbers but closer to them than 15 MPG would be nice!

What can I do to improve MPG on a Tacoma? All I know is dealer put 32 PSI on all 4 tires at purchase. 265/65/17 Toyo A30 that comes stock.

Only thing I plan to do for now is change tires to Michelin Defender LTX M/S 265/70/17. Recommended PSI?

Have no idea what’s normal and what’s not with trucks yet. First truck ever.

That’s about average for me around town too. Mpg sucks in these trucks. You get better in a full sized. You get better if you place the truck in S6. It keeps the trans from hunting around and allows for quicker shifts to the gear.

as for recommended psi you run what’s on the door sill. I believe it’s 29 or 30 cold psi for my OR

It has to be broken in, or basically, just TAKE IT EASY for the first 6000 miles or so. The transmission is a learning one, and if you stomp on it everytime you start off, it will remember that and define your shift points accordingly. By comparison, I took it easy on mine, and I average 25mpg around town, and between 25-30 on the highway. Don't believe me? I will attach photos to prove it!trdgasmileagearoundtown05292020.jpg trdgasmileageeco04192020.jpg

I get 18 on the highway, with mud tires.

And of course by that I mean if I get gas admittedly get on the highway and drive for 3 hours I will average 18mpg.

I think 15 would be normal around town and over the course of a full tank.

I found with mine you need to find the sweet spot on speed while on the highway. My Honda Accord with the 3.5 V6 would get 20mpg all day going 80mph on the highway. The Taco 18mpg between 65mpg and 70mph.

    Welcome to the truck world!

I am constantly around 17-18. Mostly daily driving in the burbs. 2020 OR AT....I'm actually good with that but not sure what I'd get on the highway yet.

I also use the highest octane available when I fill up. Cold climate gas can be shitty.

I was told to take it easy first 5000 Miles before the first Oil change. But dang 30 MPG sounds unreal. What kind of driving did you do?

Seeing the same PSI on my door. Sounds so low. My X5 runs 40/45 Front/Rear.

I will give that a shot and see if I get any improvements. Looks like we both got White 21!

You can run higher PSI, you will get better MPG by doing so. However you will get uneven wear on your tires. The middles will wear out faster as they are over inflated. Just swapped mine out and was running 32-33 and most of the center of the tire was nearly bald. Outer had a good amount left.

I also think each vehicle has its own sweet spot on the highway. Above 70 surely wasn’t it for the Tacoma honestly. I’m going to try staying strictly under 70. Just sucks cause I usually stay left lane and cruise on at whatever mph necessary.

If you keep it stock m.p.g. Will slowly increase until at least 10,000 miles.

Did you mention tire warranty when replacing them? Local discount tire gave me credit for remaining tread left on the tires on X5 for uneven wear, said it’s covered under manufacturer warranty. Got about $120 credit per tire that had uneven wear(all 4 of them lol) X5 runs staggered so I can’t even rotate... it’ll wear uneven no matter what so I just replace them at half life, take that credit.

Depends what the temps are. In the summer if just driving around town, probably around 18-19 mpg., in winter i'd bet its closer to 17 at best. With a combination of highway/city in the summer i'll get around 23 or so. Winter about 19-20 mpg. This with a bone stock sr5 v6 auto using 265/70 16 a/t tires.

You are pushing a brick down the highway. The only way to get better gas mileage is to slow down. 75 mph is not going to get the best results.
