    An adult man in dandism!

Not mine but my Forrest Mica G-Limited had the same decaling.

G-limited was the higher trim model of the Naturally Aspirated (N/A) only available in the Japanese market. Automatic was standard while manual was optional. It also had higher trim options like power folding mirrors, power steering, power fogs etc.

I think the idea behind the SE Edition is they take a few of the most popular higher end options and add them into a mid level model thereby saving you a few grand off the price of a top line vehicle and it usual makes for a pretty good value.

Oh yes I'm well aware, the steering fogs on mine never worked but it was a nice idea. Also according to the JCI documentation it made more power than a standard N/A MR2 but as far as I could tell it was bone stock.

    But what does G-Limited mean?!

It really was the car that made me a Toyota head though, that and Ivan Stewart's MCI Baja truck.

I miss that little MR2, one day I might have to get me a hard top turbo for a dedicated auto X toy or something, hopefully the don't end up Supra expensive.

Last I checked beat up shells were going for a couple thousand.

Yes I know - it actually tells you this in the owners manual. The RAV's (and most crossovers nowadays, sadly) use the "lazy" version of AWD where it only engages the rear wheels when it detects wheel slip. No center diff at all, just two open diffs w/ an coupler that activates when sensors detect wheel slip, or in this case, when it's manually activated. I think the older 1st gen RAV's had torsen diffs but I may be wrong on that.

if you were lucky and was able to get an old v6 rav4 (bought ours new off truck). the torque steer was fun during the summer and man could that thing surprise people at stop lights :)

think they had 6.4s 0-60 when they first came out.

But remember, Toyota is for the masses. Would you have liked for the TRD division to have been taken to the level of M Motorsports like BMW or AMG Mercedes...?, then most of us could not afford an M or AMG variant. This is all about marketing, that's why they are one the most valuable car company on the planet. Sure TRD is a gimmick but at least makes us feel good about the "special edition":D!

I wish Toyota would add the “Swinger” trim to its cars and truck. I learned the meaning of that word at a young age when my Mom made my Dad de-badge their Dodge Dart “swinger”. She was OK with Dart, but wasn’t gonna drive a swinger.

Still find it hilarious that any marketing board approved this for mass consumption. I guess it was the 70’s

Here is a Dodge Dart “Swinger” edition. I guess this lady (not my Mom) was ok with getting frisky with the neighbours. It also makes me laugh that the Swinger badge has a Walmart Anus as part of it.

I think Toyota should rethink their branding.
Toyota should disband the TRD from both the Sport and OR modles. Then simply lable them the Tacoma Off Road, and Tacoma Sport. Toyota should reserve the TRD designation for the TRD Pro. Maybe even rebrand the Pro as just the TRD Tacoma.

4WD is really a more generic term, at least as far as Toyota is concerned. They use 4WD for part-time and full-time systems, as well as using AWD for full-time systems, and 4x4 for part-time systems.

Anything that can drive all four wheels, they call four wheel drive.

MR2 stands for Midship Runabout 2-seater. It's a happy coincidence that it also stands for Mid-engine Rear-drive (it was likely intentional).

    Funny you mention this - wife has a 2007 RAV4 Limited w/ the V6.

IIRC, the 2006-2008 V6 Rav4 was the fastest Toyota production car for that decade? Sure as hell feels like it - it's always fun to smoke the WRX kids or midlife crisis BMW/Boxers at the stop light

I have always liked the MR-2 preferably the 2nd gen over every gen Supra, as awsome as the Supra is.

Yes, TRD is way, way over used...like Z71 was on Chevy's, to the point of meaningless...

The disappointing thing is that it really has diminished the brand so that actual TRD (Toyota Technocraft) parts aren't seen as cool as they actually are, and Toyota's racing efforts have all transitioned over to GR.

    Such is life.

Technically true, but in reality pre-runners were utilized as back-door cheating tools for the bigger teams. The pre-runner would be built just like the race truck same chassis, suspension, wheels etc etc, but 2 wheel drive and a stock engine and as many other spare parts as they could carry. They would be driven by members of the team following the much faster racers, if the racer broke something on his race truck, when the pre-runners caught up they would cannibalize the pre-runner to get the racer back in the game.
