ROLA rack chopped down about 3” since I feel it sits way too high. Thule kayak saddles.

no. the outback's bottom is pretty flat. I only use pads so it dont scuff up the bottom.

what’s on your roof, if you don’t mind me asking?
Trying to decide if I want to go just roof, or just bed (would lean towards the Overhaul setup), or both on the new truck.
I’m typically carrying one or two (or more) 12-14’ paddleboards, and/or 2-3 whitewater kayaks (those generally stay in the bed) or up to 4 mtn bikes.

the XSporter on the previous truck worked great until we got to 3-4 bikes. New truck has OEM tonneau I’m trying to decide if it’s worth fighting with.

You have a pic with both yaks? I have a DB on my AC as well. Have the two bar Front Runner kit being installed soon. Both our yaks are 10'6 so I'm not sure if I need the bed extender or not. At the same time, I don't want to mount them too close to the back window.

Well I did a thing. Diamondack SE with the Front Runner kit. Threw an old kayak carrier on there. Works surprisingly well. Took our maiden voyage yesterday to a local lake. Did not budge.

Yes I know I'm using ratchets but the old tie downs I had were pretty bad. New ones on the way. This lake was only 20 min away, all back roads.

Kayaks are 10'6 if anyone is curious.

This is what I was going to go with. A buddy fabbed some "extensions" for the bed rack to put j-cradles on.

I'm looking at replacing my soft topper on my 2016 tacoma with either a RetraxPro w/ the Yakima Overhaul HD set up or going hard top ... I noticed you've done both from looking at your other posts. I'm an avid kayak fisher with a few hobie's as well. I primarily stay in the fishing lane of things. Not doing too much back country camping or taking the truck crazy places. I live on the east coast of Florida, and just stick to that terrain really. Just curious of your experience with both and if you like having the topper better than the rack system.

I prefer the topper so I can lock up my gears if I'm staying at a hotel overnight. But if you are getting a retrax xr then you should be fine with the yakima overhaul hd.
