Oh wow I'm glad I asked. I did not know updating to a newer stock ECU config required TechStream / another process. I just assumed that could be done via VFTuner too?

It's easy to get them confused (so was i at first). Vftuner only allows you to flash, create and modify tunes that are already compatible with your current ECU configuration. Techstream is needed if youre updating the ECU config itself. Would be cool if VFtuner had that capability tho

Yesterday when attempting ecu recovery on somebody, I got this. Basically when recovery failed or even just hitting prepare ecu for shits and giggles failed, everytime after that for any button, it would give that error until the flash tool was closed and reopened. Then it would let me try something without immediately giving the error.

But once it had identified that there was no communication with the ecu, that's what I got every time until closing and reopening. That error, or one similar to it that said the truck was either off or communication unavailable or something along those lines

Yeah, I assmume that is what is going to happen when it's too far gone to be saveable by software alone. I'll be getting that one shortly and will do some bench flash testing when I recover it.

Yea, that wasn't the first prompt that i got either. First one said something along the lines of 'no ecu to reset found.Engine off?'. Tried re-opening application and it would only give me the openport error after, even when prep ECU command was able to verify connection with ECU

Suddenly it makes a whole lot more sense why dealers are so unwilling to apply this TSB on demand. They don't want to assume the financial risk of recovering/replacing a bricked ECU if their tech screws up the flash.

To an extent. But at the same time there is a secondary Mongoose cable and procedures that can be use for unbricking. @ktbell444 tossed me a TSB for doing that on a bricked skid control ECU. That one takes like 70min to complete?

Edit: It is just for incorrect GPS location.

Now this is unexpected. Can’t believe you’d go through all this work after so many of ‘us’ have complained and griped and just whatever! Truly impressed!
