I’m getting 15 MPG average? Truck 2 days old

I disagree. I have driven every condition and every style and my MPG is always low. Thee trucks are not all the same.

 

Must be the sweet wood trim

 

Mines about the same(21.5), but I set the cruise to 68mph. First month I had it(stock tire size) I got 25.5mpg on 6 200+mile trips. Then the change to 10 ply's killed that.

 

Not with the V6. Your pics prove nothing. Does your town have any stop signs or street lights?

 

True that....I didn't see +20 mpgs until around 12k miles.

 

Just shy of 2500mi since I drove my 2021 home from the dealer. Just 3 months in my possession.
No rolling differences away from stock. I'll just say, I'm not impressed with the MPG.
My 04 (3.4 Dbl Cab) gets better MPG, and it's lifted 3" on 32s.

 

I thought Japanese trucks were supposed to get better gas mileage. Toyota has too much short sided corporate America influence now days. Toyota is a hollowed out shell compared to 30 years ago.

 

I had a 1997 camry years ago and the build quality was definitely better.

Yeah those numbers that the manufacturer lists are ideal conditions. Like highway at 50-55mph, no hills, no wind, 65* temps, summer gas, half tank of gas and no extra weight in the vehicle besides driver, and whatever else could factor in. Very rarely does anyone ever see those numbers.

 

What’s funny is under optimal conditions Toyota couldn’t obtain these numbers and somehow he magically is getting 30-40% better gas mileage.

 

Fuel economy will see negligible improvement. You're paying an extra 10-20% for a 1-2% improvement (if any at all).

Your fuel economy should improve as the car breaks in. I'm at 3500 miles and my average is still improving. Granted, the biggest impact you can make is easing up on the pedals like others are saying.

 

But, there is a return. I see so.many people buying stuff for their rigs they will never truly use. At least my extra cash gets me something.

 

I tried driving like a grandpa and got worse gas mileage, because I was spending the entire time between lights or stop signs accelerating. I have started to accelerate faster so I spend more time at speed or coasting to a stop and have gone up from 15.4 to about 16.5mpg. This is on a 3.5 v6 AT stock trd sport 4x4.
I was disappointed with the mpg also, sticker says 19/23. My 19 year old 2.7l MT 4x4 1st gen was still getting 20mpg average like the day it was new when I sold it.

 

I don’t know if it’s just marketing or not but apparently Shell V Power supposedly keeps the car cleaner inside and running better over old age. Not sure how true that stuff is but I’ve always used Shell 91 as I only had BMW/Mercedes before this Tacoma. Never had any engine or mechanical issue on any of my German cars. I might as well keep running 91 on the Tacoma, it’s a habit now anyway.

 

Break in and new engines run a little low on the MPG ladder too.

After that - here's my numbers. I'm in Rhode Island, mostly around town not too much highway. July '20 is artifically low, I idled overnight for the A/C on a roadtrip through the south...in July...not my smartest moment, but that's why the numbers are lower in July '20. But I just did RI > LA > Pensacola > RI trip (that's all those miles in March) and you can see my average for the whole thing was about 21 mpg mostly all highway - I had an air dam on for that though.

Your MPG will go up after the first few thousand miles, and then after that it's a truck, won't be getting Prius MPG with a BOF truck.

 

I have seen these constant complaints for years on here. Not disagreeing, but it is part of being a Taco owner.

Fact: We get crappy gas mileage.
Guess: Another 1-2 mpg is not really changing anyone's life. 2 mpg better ~ $16 a month for average driver.

Solution: buy a Honda

 

Whoa that sheet looks clean. I could live with those numbers. I’m still learning so much about truck life. I actually wonder if Toyota will make hybrid Tacoma. Give it Lil more pep and better mileage.

 

I did consider the Honda Ridgeline as it is shorter but wtf it just happens to be the only truck that’s FWD. Truck or not I hate FWD, driven one before it just wasn’t it.

 

OP, Thats about right. I get about 16mpg
