I broke in my rear driving in spurts of 20 miles. Then I’d let it sit and cool for about half an hour until I reached 100 miles.

same process is recommended for the front diff. I’ve been doing 20 mile stints on logging roads in 4wd to break in the front gears. Could probably do it on the pavement all at once, but it gives me a reason to go explore service roads more.

I went from Nitro's recommended 85w-140 to amsoil 75w-110. Definitely a little more noise unfortunately, only on decel and very light throttle going downhill.

I have Nitro 5.29's. That being said, I can coast the truck further and maintain speed easier and mpg's have gone up by about 1. I noticed this increase this winter while temps were way down in Colorado. Now that it's getting warmer obviously mpg's are up even more.

Sorry if it’s been asked. I thought I read through most of this thread. Anyone buy a Rear Diff and Front Clam from ECGS? Any issues? Got an estimate locally and checked the prices on ECGS website. I can save quite a bit of money with ECGS. So...has anyone gone this route and were you happy or?
    Thanks.

My coworker did 5.29’s from ecgs and it was a really smooth transaction. Had them shipped to our work and he did them after work on a Friday. Came back early Saturday and added fluids and began the heat cycling process. It’s almost 2k cheaper for me to do it this way than to pay a shop locally to do it.

Lol same thing happened to me. ECGS was like 400 dollars cheaper than other shops. All of which are commonly spoken of on these forums! I got my gears and install kits and so far no problems. I got yukon 5.29s I’d buy from them again in a heartbeat!

I'd definitely pick ECGS over a shop if I was in a different situation when I did my gears.

That being said, over 25k miles on the Nitros and no problems other than them sounding like a 747 at any speed over 65, especially off throttle downhill. My average music volume is 40. I would tell people to pick Yukon or Revolution but hey, just me. 75W-110 makes the diffs stupid loud. Had it in for a day and drained it immediately. 85W-140 is the happy spot for me. I don't really care about the whine but it is annoying at times when I'm trying to talk on the phone.

I do not want whine. It’s interesting that they have a rather large disclaimer for whine on the website. It’s just so much easier for me to install pre-built units than to have to deal with a local shop.

FYI. Currently putting in my order with ECGS. Spoke to Paul from ECGS about some of the choices and asked him what Brand of gears he will be putting in my front and rear diffs and he said Yukon. He said the Yukons have been working better than the Nitro as far as quality and noise. However, they are waiting on ring gears so I won’t see them for about 3 weeks. It was also nice to be able to ask him about break in with towing a 4600# trailer.

Once I send back the cores, my total cost will be $1,762 plus my time. Local shop quoted me $2500. Don't mind paying to have gears installed since I don't have the skills but since there is a plug-n-play option, and I have a shop, might as well go this route.

Shops up here are $3500 so once I recover a bit from my last big slurge I'll likely be ordering gears.

Did you try the 4wd test to see if the oscillation/vibration goes away? Maybe the install did the front diff needle bearing in.

When I get my 5.29 gears next week can I just drive it in 4H to help break them in on the road for front and back?

Only on a decently rainy day would be my 2 cents.

Why is it some people have that whine and some people do not? is it the install process? Would REM polishing prevent this? I would be curious to see how many installed gears and get the whine, like is it 50% or less.

I went through ECGS for mine. They took about three weeks to arrive and I did the install in my garage in a day, then shipped back my OEM gears the next day. Very happy with how smoothly everything went.

What is the final crawl ratio with 5.29 regear for the automatic as compared to a Rubicon Wrangler's 44 to 1 ratio I think?
