I’m getting 15 MPG average? Truck 2 days old

A 3% increase of 15 mpg is 15.45 mpg. Over a 15 gallon fill-up, you're getting an extra 6.75 miles for your extra 10 dollars. Alternatively, you can buy an extra gallon of regular fuel and get, for $3 more, 15 more miles.

Or the Tacoma could be one of those vehicles that actually suffers WORSE fuel economy when using premium fuel (it does happen).

But don't let me tell you how to spend your money.

 

4th gen will share a platform with the Tundra, we'll probably see as much hybrid as the new F150s, which is still a hybrid but the battery bank is quite small relative to a sedan like a camry.

It's essentially fuelly but home grown since I tie it into service too. Because I'm crazy. I track my fill ups so it tells me my MPG from that, and then I pull the most recent (date and miles) and that gets pushed to my maintenance log and I can track what needs to be done when either on time or mileage based. As things come up, I add them to the list of what I need to do.

Sharing a platform with Tundra sounds wild. I saw one at the dealership it looked a lot bigger, chunkier.

 

That's the next gen. They'll be sharing a platform which probably means rolling chassis, tundra will probably get different suspension etc. I dunno, I don't know much about shared platforms like that. Makes sense, they're not that far off in size anymore!

I have a Honda. It gets 18.5mpg.

(Sarcasm-but true for my 2002 CRV that mostly does short trips)

A Tacoma is already the slowest accelerating vehicle I have owned ahh may be that's the cause of the delay the truck is drinking petrol like a beer before it moves.

 

I don’t know man. I easily get advertised or better MPGs and I’m on C load 265/70/17 KO2s. Most of my driving is city, but if I go 65-70 on the highway I can easily get 21-22 mpgs. City is 17-18.8 no problem at all. I’m actually quite happy with the fuel mileage of this truck.

 

I just wanted to add, I get 15-17 mpg in mixed town/freeway driving, solely in town is 15, and in pure freeway mode on long trips I get about 20 as long as I stay at 75 or below. Cruise control makes little or no difference, trying to accelerate "gently" makes no difference. That's pretty much what it gets.

 

Hour:47 on interstate at 70mph after about half the tank of in town driving.
I think they should be able to advertise specs like internet speeds. "UP to" 28mpg

 

My 2021 V6 4x4 Access Cab got poor mpg first couple tanks for sure. I commute about 20 miles to work. Most of the time I am on the 5 and 405. 5:30am = about 80MPH for me. Mileage was disappointing... I figured since I was barely turning 2K RPM at 80MPH I would be getting some good MPG. Not the case. 15 or 16 best case. I slowed down to 68MPH and hit the cruise one day and it jumped up to better than 20MPG. I am with others who say over 70 hurts and over 80 really hurts. Going up the 73 really hurts too. BUT, what REALLY hurt was: Adding a taller than cab truck cap, 34" E tires and a lift. Now I see 11MPG on the way home (the 73 toll) and 14 or so on the way; keeping it around 68. These numbers are uncorrected after the tire size increase. I really want to get the contraption that calibrates your speed and MFG after tire change but it is not available for the 2021 yet. I wonder what will happen when I install my 5.29s?? Waiting on the tune until after the gears are in...

 

This was my experience with my '06 TRD - in fact it kept getting better up to about 75K.
My '21 with about 4.5K miles is getting in the 17s around town. I expect it will improve over time.
A lot depends on how you drive.

 

tl;dr

Let it break in. I get about 20-21 on my 2018 Limited. It took about 2000-3000 before the gas mileage improved as I recall.

 

Go 60mph on the highway and you will be impressed.

I'm averaging just under 20mpg after 43k miles in a 2017 TRD Sport w/ a manual transmission. That's a combination of suburban and rural driving, with maybe a max of 25% true highway miles. And I see the same drop-off in mileage that others have mentioned between 70 and 75. Externally stock other than a bed rack.

 

These trucks are all over the place when it comes to mpg, kinda like looking at one's self in the mirror and wishing you had hair after it fell out 6yrs ago. Not much can be done. I had 3 differert yrs 16 got 20 average trans sucked, 19 got 16 average, my 21 < 1000 miles so far 19.7 same engine.

 

I have heard this also. There is a youtube video on it. Some nature photographer who says he is never in a rush to get wanywhere and drives 60 on the freeway and averages like 28 MPG with video evidence to prove it.
