The MT has 4.30 gears whereas the AT has 3.91.

I know this. What’s your point? Do you have 0-60 stats to support the fact that the MT is faster than the AT? I agree there might be a slight difference in 0-60 a acceleration since gears are higher on the AT and thus it is easier to keep the MT in the higher power range. But you will have to shift the MT more often. What about 0-100? Quarter mile? The manual might be a bit faster off the line because of the lower first gear (if driven by a component driver). The auto probably also shifts faster. I need to see real numbers before I will be a believer either way.

I have the off road . The ride is bumpy at times. With the 6 speed manual be warned it’s slow .. and I mean really slow in first gear . U really need to get the rpm up to get the truck moving . But I’ll take that over the garbage automatic transmission. It’s a great truck .best advice like others said take a extensive test drive . See if you can rent one if possible to get a true feeling of the truck .

Ultimately it's up to you but I do know many 3rd Gen owners complain about the throttle response and gear searching, so much so that a Tune is almost a necessity for some.

Coming from someone whose owned and driven a hummer H2, Mercedes Benz e430, Maserati Levante (lease), Honda prelude (sold 2014) , bmw 530i tuned and Bmw 328i (both sold in 2019)

i sold 2 of my bmws to get my Tacoma.
It’s a 4 cylinder but my smog job is 1 mile from home.

I can say hands down I can do much more with my truck than I ever could in my cars.

I would never go back to bmw or any mid range foreign ever again.

I love my truck. For the almost endless uses. I bought my truck According to data, I’ve been working in Smog for about 10 years now, the trucks and automobiles that failed smog the least. I would say it would be Toyotas compared to Honda ( cheap parts , intakes crack often) or Mercedes-Benz and BMW (mostly check engine lights or black smoke). Maintenance cost is also relatively cost efficient. That being said also the resale value on Toyota stays consistent and maintains value over time.
I don’t go off road or anything like that. So I wasn’t worried about any other trims than the sr5

I am 6’3 and weigh 205 pounds I am married with no kids. But I’m pretty sure that when the time comes they’ll be no issue in the backseat with the kids.

I got my truck for the long haul. Any other car I’ll probably lease and decide when the time comes.

I got my truck July 2020

and have 10,400 on the odo

To be honest. The truck was way to slow as stock. It almost seem dangerously slow to make a turn and whole traffic was moving towards you.

My engine now is heavily modified so it does not I repeat does not drive like a stock truck. My acceleration is quick due to the throttle booster and I have no issues catching up to speed as much as I did when it was stock.

here’s my complete mod list. I have no further plans. But to enjoy my truck for long trips to just go or just a mile away daily.

Manual is probably slower off the line, but don’t really care. Where the manual comes in is on the hills and mountain driving it holds 6th gear without needing to down shift. I would love to have the 4.30 gears as an option from the factory for the automatic, it would be perfect then.

Really, you haven't noticed any difference? The MT with much better gearing and they feel the same? wow. Simple engineering, same vehicle, same engine, the one with taller gears will not accelerate as well as the one with the lower gears. Just simple engineering my friend. I think your butt dyno is faulty, lol. Never trust your butt dyno. It is usually a fail. I would say that even with the slower shifting human being, the manual will out accelerate the automatic. Which also means than in gear acceleration will be better. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. I am sure there is plenty of tests you can look up yourself if you wish to.

Huh? I’m asking for scientific evidence and you are accusing me of using my “butt dyno”? You have this all backwards. I suspect you didn’t read the whole thread.

If you wish to find out, you can do your own search, why should I help you with google. :D

Do you understand that gears can give you better acceleration? Or you never learned that concept? Taller gears give higher top speed, never learned that concept? Do you think it's just BS and no matter the gearing everything accelerates the same? seriously? why would this even be a question, seriously. like I said, I would bet that even with the slower reaction of manual shifting the manual will accelerate faster.

Just found acceleration for Ridgeline, 15.3 sec to 1/4 mile. Basically the same as the Taco. So no gain in going to the Taco. Which is what I figured.

I just picked up a silver sky metallic 21 TRD Off road double cab manual transmission and love it. It definitely has good throttle response and its a really comfortable and quiet ride in my opinion. The manual transmission takes a little getting used to with the rev hang but once you get it down it is a blast to drive.

FWIW I’m pretty sure an M/T Taco can hit 60 in second gear, thus only shift needed

And no I’m not willing to go try it :burnrubber:

A lot of the Toyota dealers will do daily and weekly rentals; look under the "service" section of the dealers website. My sister was thinking of getting a Rav4 so she rented one for a week and got a real good feel for it, and there's no obligation from the dealer giving you an 'extended' test drive.

Why not wait a little bit for a POS electric truck from which ever lame ass company delivers cheap / reliable first. I mean joking aside .... it’s not total fantasy at this point. 0-60 in 3 seconds , y’all bull sh*tin about some sorry ass acceleration times , just saying. Ya also no t case or transmission to worry about (instant torque duh). Also no skid plates to worry about cuz it’s a giant ass RC car skateboard. No catalytic converter thieves to worry about . No maintenance essentially (unless you’re one of the boners who changes stupid things like “cabin air filters” and wiper blades). Less brake usage. No pulling in water or having engine oil fail to pump around the engine on a mega steep off-road incline . Operation in the vacuum of space is possible. Drive itself. Run ac / heater non stop waiting in the parking garage with out idling a motor (fumes and sound ). If it’s a cyber truck then no paint recalls or scratches to worry about ever . I saw the Rivian r1 on i15 weeks ago here in SD and that thing went from like 60 to 90 in the blink of an eye. I was like “yup electric trucks are gonna win”.

just saying , don’t be the guy who got the best blackberry phone just before the iPhones came out ....
