Platz-Form - Platforms for Double Cab Tacomas (Full & Half Length)

Dont currently have a waiting list but I am actively dealing with my supplier/manufacturer on getting more materials for another batch. Apparently there is a nationwide shortage on ABS plastic due to COVID restrictions shutting down some of the production plants so sourcing my materials is taking longer than anticipated. I will update this thread as I learn more and get more ETA's to let everyone know when theyll be available again. As of right now its looking like 4-6 weeks until I have more full sized ready to sell (will also have more 60% platforms and a new size, 40% platform). I currently have two 60% platforms left in stock. I am working hard to find this material in hopes of cutting the time down but just wanted to be honest with the current situation.

I'd only had My Tacoma a few day's when I ran across this thread and I had a plan for a few things to put in the back without tearing up the leather, Sure the seats fold down nicely and a few members have some great ideas but this thing
had my name all over it especially for my Co-Pilot ( Chocolate Lab ) and her cushy napper, two summers ago she had to have ALC work on both rear legs and going on twelve years old and now the Tacoma the only unit it was to say the
least PERFECT !

When the napper is removed the rubber trunk mat out from my old Cadillac fits perfectly to lessen stuff from sliding, allowing me to switch it's uses in no time at all

The packaging was the best I've ever seen, The platform arrived like it just rolled off the line and as an added nice surprise is the little zipper-clasped bag for the locks that fit nicely next to the jack until needed...Nice Touch

Also, what dog bed is that? Looks like it fits PERFECTLY... and also folds up the back quite nicely.

Correct. The overall width of the two (60 + 40) will be the same of that of the 100% full length.

Yes it does, I was surprised, the top of it tucks right under the seat latches so it stays put while she moves around

 

What brand is it/where did you get it from? It's as if it were made specifically for my platforms haha

 

The Brand is Top Paw and I got it @ Pets Mart the size is 46' X 35' her My Pillow Puppy ( largest one available ) seems small and does not come up the back, next I'm
going to see how a body pillow I have will work to put on top of the folded seats so she has something soft to put her head on between the front seats.

 

Its been a couple of weeks and I was wondering if there had been any change in your inventory.

 

Currently have one 60% in stock and the next batch is in production. I dont have an exact ETA on those yet, I will update when I do. The next batch there will be (12) 100% platforms, (6) 60% platforms and (12) 40% platforms. The manufacturing process is taking longer than anticipated due to a nationwide shortage of ABS. I finally recieved the raw materials and they are in production.

 

You'll make a mint-load if you can figure out how to have this fold up and stow with the seats in the upright position.

 

It won't be possible with a design change to the platforms, to get them to do that, a new U-bolt would need to be manufactured at a longer length. I have not done the research to see if this is something that exists or would need to be designed and manufactured. But its do-able.

I haven't done much research into this just because the platforms are so light weight (the 100% is ~20 lbs, so the others are lighter than that) so they are very easy to remove and stow away in the truck bed, or garage, etc since they are lightweight and also fold flat. But I do agree, that would be quite nice to never have to remove it. I'll look into it and see if a longer Ubolt is something readily available or if it's something that will need producing.

 

Thinking outside the box ('cause hey, that's what internet jockeys do). What about a two piece setup with keyholes? Drop the horizontal one flat, slide it into the vertical one that has 25+ keyholes in it, push it over 2cm to engage the keys, then some sort of clip or other retainer to keep it from sliding back? I can draw crayon pictures for you.

 

The benefit of this setup would be a two piece "breakdown-able" platform? But the issue with it going behind the seat isnt the length or width, it's the thickness of the material. The seat, when going into the latch, uses the entirety of the length of that U bolt to catch and latch. If the platform were behind the seat, the extra thickness would prevent the seat from latching since it wont be able to utilize the full length of the latch. Maybe I am misunderstanding and need a crayon drawing but I just want to illustrate the current issue and why it wont fit behind the rear seat without a longer latch.

 

I'll take a look at the setup next time I'm out in the garage with a few free minutes. Might be tonight if I can knock out some consulting work timely. If not, it'll be in the next few days.

I *think* I know what you're saying. When you say length, does that correspond to depth, or the 'reach' of the latch?

 

Yes so think of the seat latching mechanism as male and female. On the back side of the seat, that would be the female part (the latch is inside of the seat). And the Ubolt (male) is mounted to the back wall of the truck. The over length/depth of that ubolt is almost EXACTLY the length it needs to be in order to engage the latch in the back of the seat. For instance if you have gear behind your seat, if it is too much stuff, the seat wont be able to latch because that stuff will prevent the latch from reaching the tip of the u bolt. So likewise, if the platform is behind the seat, it will add an extra half inch thickness to behind the seat which in turn would not allow the male end (u bolt) to reach deep enough in the female end (latch set in back of seat) to engage the latch.

 

Sounds like the simple solution is a Ubolt with a longer presentation. Or, from my military days.... Push Harder You Stinkin' Grunt!
