I’m not interested in engine modifications, I’d rather keep it all mostly stock. These do make a difference on engine bay temps and thus far have had zero negative impact. Beyond that it is purely cosmetic.

    Stawk as FUCK!
Thanks for the update, so based off your results, you would actually get much more effective ventilation with a much wider and shorter length vent. The long vent form has essentially allowed the front to vent while the rear vent is acting like a cowl inducing intake. The middle string you saw in neutral form just confirms that the middle area is essentially stalled air while the front is vented and rear is inducted. Very interesting considering we don't have access to a wind tunnel nor has Toyota shown us their wind tunnel testing.

Nope, lol. Still have a fresh hood in my cargo trailer waiting though. Honestly I'm at the point with my truck that I'd much rather continue to use it than modify.

All done with both sides. Very happy with how it came out. Didnt take as much time as I’d like to cleaning up the cuts from the underside but this’ll do just fine. Going forward I’m keeping temp logs with intake engine and trans temps to see how much this has reduced those in given circumstances/weather. Nothing scientific but data nonetheless.

Link to these louvers? I'll put those on mine. Looks good and will help with crawling temps I'm sure as that location is pretty much over the headers

    Did it earlier today.
Initial thoughts are- I can see temps lower faster when coasting.
Inside cab noise is quieter- doesn't make sense to me but I'll take it.
I can see mirage coming out the vents when stopped.
I tried to place them so they looked right but also over the headers. This also allowed me to avoid cutting supports.

with the build I have in mind I’m going back and forth about hood options (cf with built in louvers or cut my bud and add em myself) I like what OP did with his, and seeing as mine has the stupid scoop I wonder if these would look better with it.

I’m in Arizona so I don’t worry too much about rain but heat is an issue especially when you’re pushing your rig in the summer when ambient temps are upwards of 120*

Bring this back from the dead and if you look at the photo below you may see why.
The aluminum L33 5.3 LS w/ a bumpy cam in front of a twin disc, Tremec TKX wide ratio, 3.73 TrueTrec and 275/45-19’s = 28.8” of P7 rubber. This power plant putts out some heat in the engine bay. I even went full “Fast & the Furious” mold for the engine to get cooler outside air. See 2nd pitcher below.
This mod is a love hate mod. Love that I actually get cooler air but hate the “Fast & the Furious” look. I wanted a NACA duck but I couldn’t find one I could conform to the contour of the front fender. I formed the outside ring and mated it to the stainless tube and had a friends employee weld it. I did find a company that in the process of making color matching powder for powder coating. Color matching would hide mods a little better. I also use 5 x 8mm Stainless Allen button heads with lock nuts to attach no pop rivets here!
I have a question for the OP, what company did you use for your vents? Sorry to say they look a bit rough around the edges. I like the 316 stainless marine vents but I understand the vents themselves are paper thin and could easily get bent. Also to the guys who said that Toyota didn’t engineer the Tacoma from over heating. You NEED TO KNOW that manufacturers have to build for the masses! I.e. make things child proof!! And yes if you have open venting to the top of the hood you are going to get a dirtier engine bay. The factory would have open venting but you are just asking for more trouble. Owners storing vehicles under trees and etc. Falling debris, would plug the vents, no way of getting around that! Again, manufactures need to make things child proof for the masses.
Oh, OP the string coming out from your vents and being close to the bottom of the windshield. You need to know that’s one of the highest pressure points on a vehicle. That’s why Cowl CAI are some of the best areas to get outside air from! Now I’m not an engineer but I’m old and have talked to many engineers over my many years.
