This was discussed a week or so ago, but I am a big fan of the way trailforks is going about this. I'll choose a fee based service over advertising revenue scheme any day of the week. At least that allows me to make a decision about which proucts/services I want to support, instead of relying on advertisers to pay for my free ride.

Also, it's free for your local region because you shouldn't have to pay to access trail info on a region that you're helping support. This directly addresses both of your complaints since local riders won't need to pay.

Edit: From trailforks.com "Many other functions of the app also remain free. Such as checking trail status, reports, events, contests, badges & your personal Ridelog recording & viewing. The trail map is only restricted in the Trailforks APP, the website maps remain free and open. Learn more about how you can use Trailforks for free."

I’m a bit nomadic so it doesn’t work the same for me as it does for most. It does not allow you to change your free region once you initially sign up.

How does it compare to mtb project in your eyes? I downloaded it recently and I like it for the price :D

Also is your ride free if you are paying for the service? I’m may just be confused by what you are trying to say.

Question for you guys, I just pulled and re-greased my air spring on my Fox 36 to get the gobs of grease off the air piston. I put 40cc of 5wt fluid on the damper side (Grip), and 10cc of 20wt on the Air side. The service guide says to also add 3cc INSIDE the air chamber which I did by pulling the air spring topcap. Curious if I did it correctly by dropping some fluid directly in the air chamber? None of the videos online show this part.

If you're nomadic, then the free version probably won't suffice for you. I get a lot of use our if the app on trips, which is why I'm happy to pay for it.

I have never found mtb project to be very good, but mostly I find that mtb project vs trailforks is region dependent. You kinda have to use trailforks in Utah because no one uses mtb project and so it's out of date. I've heard the opposite is true for the Colorado front range.

Yeah. the app is a little bit more limited in scope. But trailforks.com on a computer is still free to use. I'm with @SenatorBlutarsky ... I'd pay for it. But also, I've talked with the dev team on trailforks, they knew they'd get backlash but the vast majority of people are happy. It's the vocal minority problem with social media.

Lol. if you're one of those who travels more frequently, then you can use it like you would normally. I definitely fall into that category.

MTB project sucks for Alabama, at least my local area.

    heads up @levie125 lol

I gladly pay for Trailforks, especially at that entry level price, for the amount of use I get from it.

but I buy from Amazon so what do I know?

Using an app that doesn't get regularly updated to get trail status seems frustrating. Our local clubs use fb/instagram and people just post trail closures and weather conditions.

I have found that it’s “good” for trail status, but it’s “great” for a map and finding your way around.

you’ll get a better trail status from the local Facebook pages or something similar in my opinion.

Same here. I love exploring new areas, riding new places. TF is a huge help with that. Getting in-the-pocket maps, and rides sent to my watch for navigation has helped me get to places and rides I never would have found. That in itself makes the app worth the price, if not more.
Also works in Europe. I used it out there a couple of years ago to figure out where to ride, which meant I could get more out of my trip.

I paid for it when I was in Brazil. I could see that there was trails in the location, but couldn't find the exact details. I found out after that only 10% of the trails were on trailforks because everyone uses strava there. I think it's the same for colombia because there's not many trails on the app, but i've heard there are many. Anyways, the app was cheap enough that it wasn't a big deal, and I know that in the USA the trails are recorded.

I guess after reading the other bits - I get the trailforks thing now. I see both sides still though, you have local riders who built trail networks, didn't get paid, but now if I go out to say BV or whatever, I have to pay trailforks for that data. But they did the platform and coding work ect.

Whatever - I usually ride with others and don't do a DIY day and hardly ever lead, and when I DO lead it's trails I know really well.
