3rd gen audio build - Joying tacoma headunit

I just unplugged and plugged everything back in... All appears good. That's what I have selected for car settings. Everything is working except for the darn steering controls lol. Surely I'm missing something in the settings

 

I am using RZC -> Toyota -> Hilux -> 2015-2018 for mine.

Also something to keep in mind, you can not use the "control" app that is in the radio to change the buttons, that app does nothing.

 

Tried those settings. Nothing. Tried resetting. Nothing. Is there a specific cable that controls the steering wheel buttons?

 

Whichever one goes into the black box thats on the joying harness.

 

All looks to be connected. I'll have to just keep messing with the settings and see what I can do.

 

Try a restart also, sometimes I have had problems that shouldnt be problems that end up being solved by restarting.

 

@BobU05 , have you programmed the steering wheel buttons to the stereo functions? Or do you not have to do that with the CANbus plug?

 

Shouldnt have to with these. The canbus module does it for you. You cant even change them in the program app.

 

I sent a message to Joying. If everything else is working as it should, I wouldn't think there are any missing cables or anything like that.

Such a simple fix. These two wires were not connected. Steering wheel controls are WORKING.

Finally installed. It isn't a perfect fit, but eventually I will mold it to the bezel. Overall, very happy so far. 100 times better than entune!

 

Quick tip, looks like you have both sma antennas hooked up (little gold screw on antennas) 1 of them is for 4g cell service, if your not using a sim card to get internet in the unit, you can take that antenna off and just leave it at home. Also the GPS antenna should be magnetic (mine was at least) so I ran the wire up the "a" pillar to the headliner where I just stuck it above the overhead console, but it also worked just fine when I had it stuffed in the dash behind the radio.

 

So finally got my unit installed today. Night and day! The Apple Car Play is a little goofy but I will get it sorted out. Big issue for me right now is next/prev song on steering wheel does not work for Apple Car Play but does for BT music. I cannot find anywhere the vehicle model options to see what vehicle it is set on. I have looked everywhere. Is this setting in one of the hidden areas such a developer mode?

 

It should be under "factory settings" pin 3368

 

Found it, thank you! Turns out the prev/next doesnt work when you are not in the car play screen!

Now, how did you fix this? I ran into same problem but cant find how to reverse it!
