So does this actually “bubble” or is it that the rubber warps?

I think heat just gets trapped in there with nowhere to go so it bubbles up. I'd even guess the charger is still fine because people have taken them in for warranty replacement and the new one does the same thing. Plus I don't believe anyone reporting this issue has said they charger quit working.

it's the rubber that warps and ridges upward like a little hill. nothing too crazy, but enough to make the QI pad hard to use without some extra weight pushing your phone down

You don't have to. There's a TSB now:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/qi-pad-tsb.702716/

Edit: Sorry! The TSB is only in the 3yr, 36k period. It wouldn't hurt to ask though.

I'm going to figure out, one way or another, eventually, to just take it out and put in a cubby from an SR5 trim since I don't want that thing anyway. Besides, I removed the button for it and used that spot for the AnyTimeBackUpCamera.

I have a wireless charging phone and still don't use it. Just not a good spot for me for charging.

I have used the QI charger every single time I have driven the truck. It’s enough to charge while streaming music. No issues.

and this post will jinx my luck haha

I just noticed this happened on my QI wireless charger this summer. 2017 Tacoma. I never use the wireless charger, and I always keep a windshield sun shield up when parking the truck at work (and my front windows are tinted). Just looked down a few weeks ago and saw the bubble. What the hell!

I have a 2017, had it replaced under warranty, never used it, and it has bubbled again. It's just trash.

I know this is an old tread. But you can order 861C4-04010. It’s 42 bucks from Toyota. It replaces the top bubbling pad. Be careful on eBay. There being sold for 100 bucks. Crazy but Toyota has it for 42. Keep in mind this is the top replacement rubber NOT the control unit. If yours works but the bubble is an issue. This fix is for you. Don’t glue it as another guy did.

I used 3M hi strength adhesive that someone here tried to glue the rubber with charger. The qi charger looked new when I was done, but the bubble returned after a month.

I'm so pissed I wasted money on glue and time and the bubble is back.

Don't use the glue of the picture, not a solution.

40 dollars gets you a new pad. Oem. The time it takes you to glue it. You can get it new.
