I ride in 2 then. Im only looking in the left and right mirrors if Im going to pass someone.. 1 for me is right next to oncoming traffic, so the probability of someone almost hitting you is higher than 2 or 3.. Maybe @grdgz97 should ride in the middle

From what I have seen in the market, F7GS is cheaper used than the F8GS. I've been looking at those also. Right now I am going for the 6-9 ish range. The lower the better, right now.

I also ride 2 unless the wife is riding with me, then I ride 1 and have her ride 3 just because I have more experience and I feel like she is still learning the road/bike while I am watching the surroundings. We have sena head sets so I am talking to her all the time.

I think I ride between 2 and 3. I move around, but I hardly ever ride next to oncoming..

Maybe I didn't clarify enough earlier, but most of my riding is out on rural country roads. And all these incidents of people coming into my lane is when they are passing in the opposite direction.

I would still ride in 2 or 3 in that case. Maybe the exhaust wont help, but at least you can be away from position 1 where someone will be if they are passing.

2 is where all the oil is so I never ride 2. I usually ride 1.

If you can go 2010+ for the updated flywheel that doesn't fry stators every 20K miles or so, and then 2015 (I think??) got ride by wire and a few minor updates. F7s are still a super awesome bike. I think the main differences are slightly less suspension travel, solid wheels instead of spokes, and a milder cam for a couple less ponies.

Also, for the other discussion thats going on, yet another study says loud pipes don't save lives, I haven't watched the video just read the article the other week.

    https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/motorcycle-exhausts/

"Loud pipes save lives 'is a false statement' according to Romanian study"

And on the other other discussion, I'm rarely in 2, too. Almost always 1 or 3. I don't like riding on top of the crown.

I had thought about it, but that’s a lot of money for a light. Haha. Big Bear Choppers does a dual LP9 fairing for their baggers. It looks killer but not my flavor.

Read this on ADVRider recently and a lot of it makes sense. I've never bought into that excuse for being obnoxious to begin with. If you really give it even a little bit of thought it's pretty simple. Think about a time when you've been in your car or truck at a traffic light and you hear a siren. Fire, police, or ambulance it doesn't matter. While the siren does get your attention when you hear it you can't immediately pick out which direction it's coming from. Loud pipes are the same thing. They might cause you to look but there is no guarantee you'll look in the correct direction the first time every time.

Bright colors and bright lights will do more to increase you conspicuity and make you seen by other vehicles but even these items are no guarantee of staying safe. My g/f and I were hit almost head on in 2019 by an inattentive driver who "never saw me". I guess the hi-viz yellow jackets and helmets and the 6 forward facing lights, 4 of which are LED, on my bike still blended in with the blacktop.

I live in rural area and can attest to the number of people that cross the center line around every curve. It's absolutely insane. They're either going too fast or not paying attention, usually on a cell phone. I think it has gotten worse over the past couple of years. Loud pipes, bright colors, flashy lights, none of it makes a difference if the driver of the car isn't even lookin at the road.

Yup, it's the sad truth, they just aren't paying attention most of the time.

Hows the knee holding up with all your riding lately?

I tend to give other riders a ton of space when I’m in my truck and when I’m riding I can tell which drivers are also riders. I think some noise can cause people to hesitate before continuing to change a lane or something every once in a while, but you can’t bank on it. I hate all of these videos online of guys running down cars and punching and screaming. YOUR life is in YOUR hands when YOU choose to ride. So you have to be the one to ride super defensively. Not saying car drivers shouldn’t pay attention. I’m saying we can never bank on it. Even if 99.9% of them drive perfect, you still have one to watch out for and don’t know which one it is so, ride well homies. Glad that crash above didn’t take you out. My buddy and his girl were in the hospital for a long time after the same situation.
