Thanks! How high did you make the PVC legs in your bed? I wanna copy what you've done. Anything you would change?

I really wouldn't do anything differently. It is 100% utilitarian and does everything I need. Sometimes I am envious of the awesome builds I see in this thread, but then I remove everything in a few minutes alone and remember why I did it this way.

Here is mine. used about 1 and 1/2 sheets of 1/2" baltic birch, plus a half sheet of 1/4" ply. The ply has a prefinished side face down so it has less friction. I will need to add some poly plastic strips at some point I am sure. The drawer is easy to opperate as is. the left sheet is not attached and can be easily lifted up. I had a platform with drawer guides made from steel tubing and bearings and 3/4 ply and it was too heavy. Its important to stay light with these little trucks. IMG_1935.jpg

Looks good. What part of the build uses the 1/4" ply? Is it holding up?

the drawer bottom. It is glued and stapled with 1/4" crown stapled to the plywood drawer sides through the bottom. should hold up a lifetime.

Love that you made it wider at the end/didn’t lose space from the wheel well.

I see a lot of side mounted awnings but not a lot of rear mounted ones so I was able to piece together a set of Sherpa load bars and a 4’ ARB awning. Allows a bit of cover and don’t have to mess around setting up tarps. 16953DF0-3B92-4CB4-A5DC-D5AAB93E618D.jpgA10A3AED-87A6-44AB-8F98-CAB02CEB9BD4.jpg

It's quite popular actually! I stole the idea from a few people here last year. I don't use it all that often though, doesn't like the wind at all.

doesn’t like the wind when it’s setup? Even with the guy lines? Haven’t used it yet, other than driveway setup

Yea, the guy lines are basically necessary at all times imo. If a freak gust rolls in there is a good chance it will damage the awning if it isn't guyed down. It does okay in moderate winds guyed down but it makes a racket and you can see the whole thing shakes violently.

Here's the progress on my current one. After making the last one out of wood and suffering warping and mold due to water intrusion, I decided to go hardcore with this one. Even after sealing every possible spot on my canopy, the windoors continue to leak with no solution.

1" steel welded crossbars with 1" steel runners. I'm going to add one more bar at the center seam and a bar connecting the top holes of the bed stiffeners to support the front edge. 3/8 starboard. Will be topped with marine decking and instead of a standard drawer type, going to do more of a slide type thing. Still working on that

This is the first angled drawer I've seen and really like the idea! Any chance you have dimensions for it? Also is it just sliding on the bed or did you come up with new slides?

I can get you some measurements. the bottom of the drawer is prefinished maple 1/4" plywood and it functions pretty well, even loaded up with tools. Im sure it will get worse but i plan on getting some poly plastic (white slippery stuff) to make it better in the long run. My last truck i had the drawer with skateboard bearings but to me it was too heavy and over kill. this drawer fully extended doesnt even really sag and lift up on the bed platform.
