Thinking of debadge today

I understnad i need to go out abd nuy fishing line. what pound did you all use? and ive read people using a blow dryer to heat them up. only thought about this is will there be any chance i could melt the paint? Thanks for the help and wish me luck

 

I used dental floss and only broke a few pieces...so you don't need super high test line. You can use a hairdryer...just take it slow and pay attention to what you are doing. A hairdryer shouldn't do too much damage unless you prop it up there and leave it for a really long time.

Get a small roll of 30lbs should be fine, you'll need a few short pieces. At the time that I debadged my truck it was hot as hell out so I didn't need to heat anything. Easy mod and you'll love it. I would wear gloves, I cut up one of my fingers and hadn't noticed.

 

I used 14 # test. I broke it a few time, but just reheated the badges when the line broke. Cut a section of line about 3 ' long so you can wrap some around your fingers. Heat the badges with a hairdrier for about 10 or 15 seconds. I had no problem with the paint blistering. After the badges are off there will be some residue left on the paint. You can get most of it off with your fingers, just kind of roll it off. Clean the rest with windex or something like it. Wax the area where the badges were and it will look great. Good luck

Tailgate took about 1/2 hour. I did the side badges on a cold day, took a little longer.

 

Agree with above posts , with my 05 I was able to use my finger/thumb to get the sticky stuff off.

 

Ok, dumb question here. What is debadging. I'm new to this forum. Got my first Tacoma about a month ago. Had an 87 Jeep Cherokee for 21 years and it was time for a change.

 

There are no dumb questions here. Debadging is removing the chrome emblems from the body of the truck for a cleaner look.

 

My opinion....makes it look very clean.

I had no issues taking the badges off. But when it came to removing the sticky stuff, it took longer. It took about 20 minutes overall. I did not use a hair dyer.

Yes!! very clean!!

 

Took me less than 30 mins to do whole truck including polish. I did it while waiting on my GF to meet me outside so we could go eat out.

doing mine today. what about the stickers? is the process the same? (fishing line, clean, wax ect.,)

 

I didn't use gloves or a hairdryer either. After awhile it does start to bother your hands but I did it. I took off both sides and tailgate. Painted the Tacoma emblem black and only replaced that one.
