I had the 4 gallon on the side of my truck for 2 years now. I usually have it filled with 3 gallons of emergency gas that I swap out every 3 months (fuel stabilized as well). I have had it in the hottest of days without any issue at all. Yesterday, only 68 degrees outside, I have the building manager of my office call me right away at 2pm stating that I need to get outside ASAP to prevent my truck from catching on fire. I was like......Wait, what the hell? I went outside to see the seals on the cap blew out and it was squirting gas, (like a freaking sprinkler no less) all over the side of my truck, all over my roof and roof rack and my windows. The cleanup was freaking crazy and then I had to wash the truck asap to get it off my paint.

Holy crap. Maybe the sunlight ended up deteriorating the seal on the cap? I have no idea. That shit is crazy though.
Indeed. I might end up making a cover of sorts to keep it out of direct sunlight. Who knows.

It was my only reasoning to not buy a Wavian, thinking that Plastic would not get as hot as metal could, but now I am thinking of the previous discussion I had with @Bruce988jl about his Wavian and how he would not buy anything else but them.

Woah, those things are fancy looking. Cheaper too. I'd only have trouble figuring out how to mount those things.
Yes, I have yours, but since yours has the tiny pilot holes it shouldn't be an issue. I'd still want to cover it to avoid deterioration if I leave it too long.

Love my wavians, they paint is peeling and surface rust is showing but I had them on the truck 24/7 empty and full for 3-4 years straight. I only took them off in October because I needed rack space while I was moving. Make sure you get a real nato tank - the knock off's have a pinch seam that sticks out past the sides of the tank. I bought mine from Amazon and made sure they were legit.

Dump the shitty "US restriction" spout for one of these. I can dump the entire tank in minutes into my gas tank.

Did you ever replace the seals at all in them?

Damn, I'm gonna have to look into this a bit more. Might to this route later on, since it may be easier to mount these on my configuration.
I'd like to know this as well.

I haven't needed to yet - I keep them stored on their backs on top of the truck, they do expand a little in the heat and contract a lot in the winter if I don't pop the seal to release the pressure. So far I have yet to have it leak, it does leak a little when I go to empty them but I mean, not enough that it phases me.

I did buy spare seals at one point, where they are now I have no idea - lost a lot of stuff in the move. The seals are cheap from Amazon (I buy everything from there) just read the reviews for compatibility on wavians. I run the front runner roof rack dual can mount on my roof rack.

Don’t know if there are any fellow UMASS hockey fans here. The team won the NCAA national semi-final, last night, over Minnesota Duluth, in overtime. The final is tomorrow (4/10) against Saint Cloud State. Go UMASS !!!!
