I just dropped my 2019 off for the 10k service. Guy asked if I wanted them to replace the low pressure fuel pump while they had it. I said duh. Pick it up in an hour and a half.

What is and Toyota with LP fuel pumps. Was watching a video last night about things to be aware of when purchasing a used FJ Cruiser during the walk around one of the mechs was pulling the fuel tank, said it had a Toyota recall for the LP fuel pump.

My story for my 2018 SR5...

I held off for a while in terms of scheduling my replacement. I wanted all of techs to have plenty of practice.

March 9th - scheduled an appt online through my local dealer's website. In the service request notes I told them my VIN, that I was due for the recall, and that I would pick a date two weeks into the future to give them time to order and procure the pump. I also requested a windshield recalibration same-day as I was having my windshield replaced. Hour later I had my appt confirmation email, and didnt have to speak to anyone. Chose March 22nd for install (planned to drop it off and let them have it all day)

March 18th - I email them asking to confirm if the pump was in and ready for my following-Monday appt. They email back saying "yep we got the pump, we're all set"

March 19th - New windshield installed.

March 22nd - Dropped the truck off at 8am. Got a call at 4pm saying it was ready. No issues. No idea if the pump or windshield recalibration took longer. (No issues other than a hiccup with the glass company goofing something up with my insurance claim, and getting them to pay for the recalibration took a few extra phone calls)

So overall, it was pretty easy and painless for me.

Dumb question. Having a windshield replaced on a 3rd gen, is it better to have a dealer replace it or do they send them out to a 3rd party. Just not sure with all the stuff on my 2020’s windshield if it’s better to have the dealership do it or a specialty shop. Also would want an OEM windshield.

I went with the local glass shop my State Farm agent suggested - which was GlassUSA. They told me “your vehicle requires OEM glass so we’ll need to order it in, then we can come install it either at your house or we can even meet you at the dealer.” So I didn’t even have to ask, I got OEM glass.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Just what I was thinking. Most dealers don’t do glass that I’ve dealt with. Just want to make sure a 3rd party shop doesn’t stick some cheap knock off in there.

Why does there seem to be no rush on this as it's clearly a hazard to use the vehicle. I have my letter and is says it could increase the risk of a crash. Would they be so slow if it were a wheel falling off problem? Are fuel pumps that hard to make?

Toyota gave me a rental Tacoma for 3 months, so I can't complain too much.

Anyone know how they are doing the recall order? I have a 2019 made in April of 19. I have seen in earlier posts people of all year models already getting replacements.

    On a side note.

Saw Honda just issued a recall for 600,000 + vehicles for a low pressure fuel pump plastic impeller failing. Haven't looked but wonder if they are Denso also....?

I just got my recall done on my 2019. Had the dealership come to my work to pick it up, and dropped it off a few hours later.

The fix for my 2019 just opened up last week. I called the local dealer this morning and they said they would order the parts for the replacement and they will call me to make an appointment when the parts come in. The service tech told me the repair will take about half a day.

Fuel pumps are not that hard to make. My guess is the supplier Toyota uses (Denso?) also supplies other manufactures. Honda has a recall for fuels pumps with the same issue as Toyota. So it boils down to how many fuel pumps from the supplier goes to the recall and how many go to new vehicles being built.

Sorry i didnt read through any of this.

Are there any odd sounds associated with the fuel pump fail?

Moms 2014 gx460 had a p0456 code, trac off and engine light, was thinking a gas cap... new cap and cleared the code.

When i would turn off the engine it will randomly make a weird sound... under center area. Possibly gass tank area.
Like a buzz after ignition was off.

I have not had hands on the gx460 enough to be familiar with the noises it makes.

She had the recall notice but didn't do it yet.
