Recently saw a small puddle of coolant under the vehicle. When opening the hood the check the coolant levels I noticed a small leak coming from (what appears to be) the water pump. Is this an indication the pump may be about to go?

That’s what I suspected. In your experience, do you think it’s okay to drive to the mechanic or do you think sh*t can hit the fan any moment?

If it isn't overheating yet, and you top off the coolant you should be ok driving it a short distance. Just keep your eyes on the temp gauge.

Pretty sure thats the power steering pump your looking at.

Looks more like you have a small coolant leak and not a water pump failure.

Here is the front of the engine, you can see the water pump is in the middle of the engine, power steering pump is what your looking at. Have the cooling system pressure tested and you will find the leak.

Good chance it's the stainless steel coolant tubes that feed the oil cooler. The welds that secure the mounting brackets to the tube have been the source.

Pressure testers are cheap and easy to use buy one or rent it from a parts store. But, sometimes it won’t leak when cold.

YEP. This is what was wrong. The bracket weld cracked and that’s where it was leaking from.
