I have a 2021 tacoma access sr and was wondering if I change my grill to the trd pro one will the tss be OK once pluged in? Someone told me that it has to be recalibrated? Is this true

As the previous commenter said, it WILL be fine, AFTER you adjust the angle of the sensor behind the grill. Look at it common sense wise. The TRD Pro grill has the sensor at the bottom of the grill, rather than in the middle. It is about 6 inches difference. So, get a couple of VERY THIN washers, and when you reinstall the sensor at the back of the TRD grill, on the screw at the top of the sensor, place one or two of the washers on the grill and THEN place the sensor there, along with the screw, and screw it in. This will alter the sensor angle. Now, you 'may' encounter the PCS OFF light lighting up at first or you may not. It depends on how long you have been driving your truck, because the sensors "learn" as miles are put on. Also, remember that the TSS system works not only off of the sensor behind the grill, but in conjunction with the CAMERA mounted in the middle of the top of the windshield. If either one is blocked due to dirt, snow, etc, the PCS OFF light will light up and your system will be temporarily unavailable, and you will see a message in the display in the middle of your instrument panel, telling you this. There are UNNUMERABLE posts here about this, but once again, hope this helps.

This is a very nice summary. I had the same question. With your description, it sounds as simple as plug and play (swapping to an genuine OEM TRD PRO grille), but with the slight adjustment of the angle to account for the 6" difference in mount height.

I just wonder what the threshold is...meaning, what if I installed a 3" lift AND swapped to TRD PRO grille at the same time? Then the net difference would be 3" below the stock mount height--is that within spec? Or is there a consensus on at what difference it would need to be recalibrated? I'll do some digging but appreciate your (or anyone's) insight.

This. It's only being moved a few inches and the area It's monitoring is rather large. If you get bigger tires and minimal lift with say Bilstein 5100s on all 4 corners, the tss is basically in the same spot it started. I've never had an issue after mine was swapped out.

This has been covered many times. However, Robmotive, just posted yet another video explaining just what you are asking about, as well as how to put the washers in that I talked about in my earlier comment. But basically, if you raise your truck, but put on a TRD Pro grill, it could be that because the TRD grill has the sensor lower, and then, you raise the truck, well you might be raising it just enough to compensate for the TRD grill's lowering it. In any case, here is a link to the video:

First of all, Robmotive is an unpopular figure in most of the Tacoma discussions/forums I've seen--I cannot take one more Robmotive video!

But your other points are well taken. Thanks.

Or you can do what I did ... install the TRD pro Fox Shocks. :D
BTW ... Mine worked just fine with the original suspension installed too ... no errors or malfunctions without any re-calibration. My biggest gripe is that the dealership wouldn’t perform the sensor “service campaign” (not applicable to yours) and I don’t want them to disable it.

To me, the TRD PRO fox shock suspension is actually the ideal solution! I don't need much more lift to do my typical local trails. Plus, I'd actually prefer to have more of a factory look and fit/finish.

Where did you find yours and how are you liking them? They cost a bit more than the 5100s+OMEs I put on my 1st gen, so price might be a hard pill to swallow:spending::rofl:

I love em .... it’s one of my top 3 favorite mods. I bought mine from the dealership that I bought my truck from .... they were pricey for sure but I’m pretty much a new parts/OEM mods only kinda guy. I’ve pretty much got the LB Pro I wanted from Toyota in the first place. If you can find a set of takeoffs for a reasonable price I’d recommend it.
