My first gen trackwidth is 69" which is 7" narrower than a 2nd gen w/ a 4.5 kit - Bobby recommended a housing that's 2" narrower than the front which is about 74"

    Yes
2" per side or 2" overall = 1" per side ? I've been curious about that optimal front to rear track width equation ?

smashed this, broke that, covered it up with tape and paint
Both the Dutchman and I are solo 4.5 kits
And my front outside of tire to outside of tire is 95”
And my rear from camburg is 71.5

and this is the spec’s from the Dutchman’s old truck

Only major difference between his and mine is he was a long bed and I have a short bed
And he was on 37’s or 35’s I think
    And mines on 40’s

I also remember him saying that his ended up more like equal width front and rear

but I’m not an expert and I’m still learning
    Who knows
    Maybe I’m wrong

I believe the rule of thumb I heard way back when was you wanted the rear to be at least 1” narrower per side than the front (2” overall) to help prevent under steer. Obviously you don’t want the rear to be too much narrower than the front or you’ll lose stability and really provoke over steer.

I believe my tundra axle is 71.5” wms to wms but I didn’t measure before stripping it.

Track width for 1st gens is 60" and 2nd gens is somewhere around 66 1/4" so I guess 75" if your front kit is actually 4.5" over. I took that measurement from a 2nd gen rear axle.

It's everywhere I found except when I took a 2nd gen axle and a tape measure

I encourage everyone to do the same - there's a chance to either make the internet more accurate or make me re-evaluate my tape measuring technique

Ugh see now you just killed all my confidence
A lot of times what I found seems to be regurgitated info from "specs" and I assume it is correct.

If I remember I’ll run a tape across mine when I get home. It’s easy for me to get a measurement right now since it’s torn apart

Right on - I knew it couldn’t be 65 even. I measured my spare housing with axle shafts that didn’t have the backing plate or drums because I had a disk conversion kit I was going to use if I put it in my truck so I guesstimated and it looks like I was off 1/2”.

Best I can do right now is a straight trade for some 2.5x16” triples prerunner series. But man do I want some 3.0x16 5 tubes for the rear and 3.0x8 triples up front.

not the tube layout you’d want. Not worth the purchase IMO.
