    Hey y'all,
I recently just got a 2019 Tacoma SR, and I was wondering if there were any options to deter catalytic converter thieves, cause in these times it seems like degeneracy is the new trend and everybody wants to be cool and saw off catalytic converters, which is what happened to my family's Ford F250. I know that skid plates from RCI and Desert Eagle on Facebook are really popular, but the RCI skid plates don't seem to really protect the converters that much and Desert Eagle doesn't currently make catalytic converter protection skid plates for the 3rd gen Tacomas last time I checked. Cat security also doesn't make their product for 3rd gen Tacomas as well. Cat Clamp and Cat Strap just look like a waste of money in my opinion, unless some of y'all tell me otherwise. Are there any options for 3rd gen Tacomas that are worth it?

Update: As of this moment I think the best option right now is Talon's Garage skid plate for the Gen 3 Tacoma. It offers protection better than the RCI skid plate and it's thicker than the CatSecurity Gen 3 Tacoma plate and is cheaper. Here it is: https://www.talonsgarage.com/product-page/3rd-gen-toyota-tacoma. It's also veteran owned and it's always good to support the troops.

I researched this, and the answer I got was that 3rd gen doesn't need cat protection because the cat is tucked in pretty deep not worth the effort for a thief to spend more than 5 mins underneath the truck. There are other easier cats to steal.

The secondary cats are underneath. They aren't worth much but people will still steal them. The expensive primary cats are impossible to steal.

Bingo. But it is not just degenerates. High margin/profit. Crackheads wouldn't have the diligence to go through an entire neighborhood. Pros are at it now. There is a well established sell/distribution chain to overseas.

I had not heard of this either till about a week ago when a friend told me that their church van had the cat stolen from it in the church parking lot. Go figure.

Given the current economic situation and the extremely high prices of rhodium and palladium in cats, there has been increased cat theft nationwide. Our ford f250 got the cats sawed off in Tennessee, although in California cat theft isn't a new issue. It's cause everybody and their mom drives a Prius (I am currently in Cali for college) and hybrid cats have a lot more of those previous metals than other vehicles. I'm honestly surprised that my sister didn't get her Prius cats sawed off when she was here.

My buddy's entire semi truck fleet (22 of them) had the cats & regen chambers whacked off last Thursday night in his salt lake yard the FBI is now looking into why the increase the last 6 months he told them about this aledged cartel thing...........every one of the agents gave him to the deer in the headlight doofus look.
He said they are very good actors by looking stupid.....or they NEVER thought of that possibility.

Meanwhile his insurance company is out get this.........$215,000.00 & to top that off 17 replacements are on backorder he's considering filing bankruptcy due to not being able to install straight pipes & deleting the limp home mode EPA feature on ALL DEF diesels so he can stay in buisness.

Got an email from my company a few weeks ago that there were cat thefts occurring in the township our facility is in in PA. Same vehicle spotted in the area after multiple thefts. So it’s not limited to CA.

I put a URD Y-pipe on my truck when it had only 44 miles on it. The secondary cats are in my garage for now.

Does having your catalytic converter stolen really represent enough risk to worry about? On a % basis, Tacomas that have their CATs stolen compared to not must be so low I doubt it's even measurable.
I put that right up there with worry whether someone is going to steal your bed mat.

I believe some just aren't happy unless they have something to worry about.

Just make them illegal to recycle. Like the POS tweakers that go into a building and do $100k damage stealing $40 in coper wire. Just stop the recycling for anything but cans and bottles, problem solved.
