Looks like a good time to upgrade the rear bumper if you have the option. That really sucks though. So sorry to see that.

I was in the same boat when I bought my new 2016. After a month or so I sold my 2008 which just tripped 60k miles. The 3rd gen looks better and has better seats and interior features. I love my 2016, however, after 5 years of owning my 2016 I realized that I sold the better truck (drivetrain). There is nothing wrong with my 2016. I can just say confidently that the 4.0 was a much better engine and the 5 speed was a much better automatic transmission. Hands down. If I could go back in time I would still today be driving my 2008.

I tried when when I was about 9 or 10. Lack of balance and some scraped knees and elbows changed my mind fairly quickly.

I'm same way. I kick myself for trading my 2014. But the options on my 2016 are leaps and bounds above the 2014.

I love the way the new truck drives as far as handling and suspension. It takes the bumpy New England roads sooo much better than my 2005 with 5100s. The 2005 just looks better IMO with the lift. Is there such a thing as a suspension lift out there that keeps the ride of the OEM TRD suspension with 2" more height? I always assumed it was just one or the other, softer ride or more clearance?

I haven't noticed an issue with the transmission, however I'm coming from the 6spd manual so I'm not used to the previous auto trans. I also don't step on the pedal as much as I did a few years back so I maybe that's why I'm not noticing the gear hunting

Looks really good, definitely high and tight! Looks like you’re in SF, I bet they give you some door ding protection too.

I never had gear hunting issues but the whole pedal to the seat of the pants is better in gen 2. The newer tranny just doesn't seem to be geared well. ECT helps a lot. Why they went with the 3.5 "Atkinson" is beyond me. I would give up 2-3 mpg to have the gen 2 powertrain in a 3rd gen body. I know the newer powertrain is better on gas. I just don't have the same confidence that the 3.5 setup will make 200k miles or more like the bulletproof 4.0. Not to mention the whole oil filter thing with the 3.5. At least I have the memories of my older Tacomas.

I will say that after getting the OVTune #2 on my 2017 TRD OR it runs like a different truck and fuel consumption is slightly better on the highway. Go figure...

Everyone that had a 2nd gen knows that answer. LOCATION. The 4.0 had a regular spin on oil filter on top of the engine.

I'm familiar I changed mine last week. Just got the 2016 yesterday so I haven't investigated the oil change procedure. It's under the truck and upside down isn't it??

3rd gen oil filter hides above the skid plate. Canister with drop in element. Multi step procedure.
