3rd gen windshield - generic glass?

Just cracked my windshield and need to get it replaced. I remember reading something about the tacoma's having some sound reducing glass.

Is the generic glass going to be the same in quality and sound deadening? What else should I consider? Thanks

 

For what it’s worth, I recently had to replace my 3rd gen windshield because of a crack. GEICO picked up the tab for a Safelite replacement. I would have had to pay for a Toyota windshield out of pocket. Two months in and I can’t tell the difference between the OEM glass and the Safelite replacement. I guess time will tell, but so far, so good.

 

I just had mine replaced and requested they use acoustic glass as my OR came with it stock. They put on a pilkington EZ-cool ultra windshield for
me at no extra cost. I don’t think they provide acoustic glass though if you’re vehicle didn’t come with it originally unless you want to pay extra

 

Do some 3rd gens not come with the acoustic glass?

 

I believe only the TRDs do but I could be wrong
