For second gens Hptuners is solid (probably more supported) as well, but you have to either know how to tune or the majority of us using it get a customized tune from JustDSM.

They also put one more filter for emissions from the 2012, could it be that?

If its a v6 I think the common concisis is that extra filter doesn't hamper the engine much. The 4 cylinder it makes more of a difference from what I read

This seems like the right explanation. Compared to my old SUV my 09 feels like a slug, until I press the throttle a bit further than I'm used to, then the Taco turns into a speed demon.

I had the same experience. 7 yrs ago when my 2006 was in the body shop and I was give a 2013 4.0 V6 double cab as a rental, it seemed quite a bit sluggish compared to my 2006. I thought maybe the 2013 was an abused rental so that's why it was down on power.

I’m always amused by people wanting sports car performance in a pickup truck.
It’s a truck...it’s not meant to go fast or accelerate quickly

So why TRD SPORT? I would prefer a faster truck than a slower anyway...

She’s gone from one taco to another not from an RX7 to a taco. Even a pickup when empty should have some pep. I’m happy with my I4 but it’s still slow off the mark.

It's a blast actually. I can drift nicely and never have to worry about potholes or curbs compared to being in a car. Never get stuck in the winter. If traffic is jammed up and there happens to be a slight off-road detour I can just hit the ditch and find an alternate route/road. Plus I can haul stuff in the box.

Yes it's not a sports car. Yes it's fun as hell.

You think the Sport is faster/has more power than a non TRD with the same V6?

I have a 2014 SR5 and will agree when I smash the pedal the truck is all rpm with no go. Not the same with 3/4 Pedal though. The truck gets out of its own way then.

    I don't want a sports car. I also don't want a truck that drives like a model-T.

Sounds like there's probably a compromise in there that keeps panties of truck purists from getting all twisted, eh?

    OP......just a thought....maybe an empty thought.

Did your mechanic install Iridium plugs when he did the plug change?

It has been reported multiple times that iridium plugs do not play well in the 1GR-FE (Gen2 4.0L V-6) engine.

Frankly, I don't know if this would make the truck "sluggish". I know my Gen2 (stock) has no trouble with accel or power.

I will suggest to do ALL the 100 kmile maintenance before you begin sinking $$$ into Tunes, Mapping or Supercharger. Remember, the truck won't perform like a Toyota Supra. They are built for working.
