Why doesn't my 2014 have any guts?

Haven’t read the whole thread but I’ve seen a couple guys mention the loud exhaust placebo... which is what I bet is happening here.
@OP throw a cat back exhaust on your ‘14 and see how it feels.
I feel like my ‘13 has good strong power... especially since I came from a 1st gen 3.4L on 33s lol

It's not the loud exhaust placebo. I promise. I have 600K on these trucks. Three of them have had exhaust mods. I'm not a mechanic, but I can DRIVE. This truck is sluggish off the line. It seems pretty likely that it was tuned differently - consensus is that second gen 2012 or later is tuned differently. Major take home has been 1) get it re-geared 2) add a supercharger 3) get a pedal commander or remap. OR What I'll actually probably do - look for an earlier model TRD sport. (that hood scoop is such BS)

Get what you like. I prefer 1st gen styling but no clamshells.

It’s the same engine/tranny so I would try a tune before swapping trucks or supercharging/regearing. Those are all expensive.

Oh I have and those trucks are marketed to be fast and only do that. The Tacoma is just a pickup truck to do pickup truck things

Have you ever driven a model T? It’s not exactly a walk in the park. Plus a model T has more flex than a Rubicon or a long travel Tacoma

    ...ok

Anyways, I think it's reasonable to want a 2012-2015 that has the same throttle response as the 2006-2011. I saw the same difference as the OP between my 2007 sport and my 2013 off road. It's not unrealistic to want the newer tacos to have the same responsiveness of older tacos in the same gen. No one is asking for a taco to drive like a sports car. No one is asking a pickup truck to do non truck stuff. Just looking for a way to get the same zip from the older gen 2s in the newer gen 2.

Sounds like a tune will accomplish that.

    Yes
This is definitely a throttle mapping difference. I had a 2010 sport and would drive my friends 2012 OR, like a night and day difference. Also worked for a pest control company with 30+ Tacoma’s and this helped me confirm my suspicions. That 2010 could steer with the gas pedal which I really miss. I assume they had to many issues with people underestimating the power over steering and ending up on the other side of the road on the shoulder. Definitely agree tho OP big difference. Don’t get a 3rd gen you’ll be disappointed lol. Cheapest fix I would say would be a pedal commander. Next think about tune. Supercharger would be last on my list.

Nope. Def not. Been "tuned up" plugs, differentials, tranny flush.... all the 101 stuff.

IF... I felt this need I'd probably go with something plug/play like this
    https://www.bankspower.com/c-119-products-throttle-controllers.html
Just from a random search of obd11 throttle boosters and not a particular recommendation. I know there are a lot of these including some with Bluetooth aps too(I think) and some much cheaper Chinese knock-offs. They offer a simple solution that can easily be reversed or upgraded. Hardware upgrades can be more satisfying but also more expensive. I think the cause is increased fleet standards for mileage that required stifling the response. It is the same motor and tranny after all. Maybe do some more reading on threads similar to yours.

I'll check it out and consider installing... after I get my truck back from the body shop where they are fixing this.....

Or maybe you know someone west of the Mississippi selling a black 2010 or 2011 4x4 V6 automatic access cab TRD sport with less than 100K on it? lol.
