Said every person until they hear VROOM VROOM when starting their car.

Oh, hospital parking lot. 15 cars hit one afternoon. One of the nurses just got done replacing her element's cat a month earlier (stolen from her apartment complex). We never heard of cat thefts up to a couple of months ago.

We bent up something like the Cat Security shield from stainless steel. Some aluminum (clogs grinding wheels) and hardened steel rod (dulls Sawzall blades) prevent easily removing the shield.

About a month ago in Pensacola, thieves went into the yard of a non-profit and stole cat converters off about a dozen mini-buses that are used to transport the elderly and disabled around town to appointments. It happens everywhere. Scum knows no boundaries.

Maybe we should go back to locking criminals up again. It will only stop when the penalty exceeds the reward.

Your chances are greater getting struck by lightning this afternoon than getting your Tacoma cat converter stolen. But if inventing things to worry about is how you get your kicks then enjoy it.

I was struck by lightning 6 months ago, cost me $500 deductible, your analogy is mathematically incorrect. There is a nation wide crime epidemic which has a correlation to the get out of jail free movement in politics today.

There you go, you were struck by lightning, but has your catalytic converter on your Tacoma been stolen? Perhaps my analogy is not so incorrect after all!

You fail to understand the intent of my post as much as you underestimate the problem of cat theft.

Happens all the time around here, can’t buy hybrid vehicles for work because our lot isn’t secure. I lose probably 2 a year off our current fleet of Ford transits, and workers can’t park hybrids at our shop overnight without losing theirs this year.

Came across this thread researching some other cat thefts.

I recently designed and made a skid plate for the 5th gen 4 runner that would both act as a off road skid plate, and help protect the cats. It is made from 1/4" Aluminum. I have looked under a few Tacomas and I beleive the mounts I use are the same on the Tacoma. Anyone around Houston want to bring a truck by for a test fit?

Maybe I should cross post this to the other threads.

Love the idea but it doesn’t prevent theft in states that require emissions. The politicians will thieve your wallet for straight piping…the very same politicians not doing shit about the crime/criminals, just making life harder for law abiding Americans. What a crazy concept.

    Welcome to TW.

What year Tacoma do you have? 4 cylinder or V6.

Challenge is our trucks are lifted. Toyota used four cats on the V6.

You can put full skid plates under the vehicle. Add some "wings" to the skid plate to limit access to those lower cats.

Idea of shield is to slow down a thief, so they go elsewhere. Engrave last last six digits of your VIN and spray paint with high visibility paint. Helps the cops bust theft rings, most thieves skip ones painted for that reason (it stinks for a couple of days).

2021 V6; note cats are built into the exhaust manifold

I just installed the cat security cover on my 2018. Decided not to drill for the 4 additional security torx bolts... front bolt is a pita to get on and off and I figure those other bolts are easy if they are determined to go that far.
