I was going to give it a little more time for a review but it isn't needed......short story this tune is FKN AWESOME!

    Now the longer version.....

I bought an '18 Taco w 30K miles about 2 months ago to replace a Camry that was over 200K miles, I live in the U.P. of Michigan and I travel all over the midwest weekly and average 35K-40K miles a year for work. I also have a 2017 Tundra that I love to drive but between the mileage & physical size I don't like to use it for work. In the short time I've had the Taco I've tried a Pedal Commander & Shift Sense V2, both made an improvement but just mask the problems with the factory settings. I run I-75 to Detroit Metro often and pretune was getting 18-20 mpg if I ran 72 mph or less & used the radar cruise to do a bit of drafting behind bigger vehicles. In the hills in the Northern L.P. the trans would "lose it's mind", shifting between 4th & 6th, I was ready to trade it in........

What a difference a few 1's & 0's (binary software joke) can make..... I started blowing up @PapaRee s inbox with questions, he was very patient and helped me through the process of getting VF Tuner set up, even sent me a couple tunes with different levels of throttle tip in. I flashed the tune while sitting in the hotel parking lot one morning and the difference was immediate! Around town my mpgs immediately went from 17-ish to 20. Yesterday on the drive home, 325 miles, I hit the highway and set the cruise at 80 mph and got 22.5 mpg for the tank. At one point I was bumping 24 mpg but the hills in N-LP dropped it a bit. The biggest difference was the trans shifting, the truck will hold 6th gear and only shifted down to 5th a couple times. I'm happy with the little truck now, thanks @PapaRee !!!!

@PapaRee or anyone on this thread - can someone educate on the basics of a tune? I know what a tune is, but I’m at a loss of equipment needed, what’s tip in, is this reversible myself if I don’t like it, any side effects or increased wear on stock parts, etc.

I have a shift sense v2 and been happy with it, but hear how amazing the tune is. Thanks in advance.

I received a tune recently from @MGMSangTaco- Denver Colorado after driving down from Boulder. Taking notes and will post updates as I drive through the mountains, DD commutes, and other misadventures.

Already extremely pleased 100 mi in. Spoiler: It's like that sweet, max torque, stock, 3rd gear pull all the time.

I just got the tune from @MGMSangTaco in Denver as well, and cant recommend he and the tune enough. He is an awesome guy, did the TSB and Tune in no time! Only have a few miles so far, but from what I do have, its a whole new truck. On 33" MTs, with 5.29 on 87 with about 750lbs extra weight, and she pulls through the entire powerband in every gear. Cant wait to push it harder and get the ECU learn out of the way, to see how the tune settles in.

    Thanks again @MGMSangTaco

The more I drive on this tune (KDMax reg 6.0 LT, custom) the better it's getting. The shifting appears to be all settled now after about 600 mi and overall the truck is driving like you'd expect any vehicle to behave right from the factory. A couple of subtleties I've noticed are: it's hanging on to the higher gears with light throttle and 4th gear pulls like it's gear locked (both good BTW). Wife (my passenger) commented yesterday that the truck was very smooth and no hard gear changes as compared to previous trips with previous tunes. She asked if it had anything to do with my "screwing around with software last week". (Her way of referring to my working with Kreg to get tuned to my liking and get it unbricked).

Something else I noticed at idle is that the Toyota tick is either muted or just not there anymore
Don't know what or how you did it, @PapaRee , but it just sounds and behaves, better.

My next great adventure is seeing how it handles in S mode + ECT pulling my camper. I've tried ECT on in D but find no need for it daily driving. The tune is that good. (and I'm too old to be doing all that 70-80 mph and WOT shit).

Also it seems like every time I fill up the DTE increases a little bit. The best I've seen is 341 miles and it's come up from an all time low of 297 miles. I'm using 89 oct which has 5% ethanol. 87 has 10% so I'm compromising 'cause 91 (no ethanol) is just too expensive.

You guys @PapaRee , @TWTaco are going to put yourselves out of business by making your tunes too good. :) :)

What is the "toe in" feature does that fix the throttle lag?
I'm interested in getting the tune. And have been running ov2.0 sfob 89 octaine.
Is there anything that us a must know before getting the tune? What are the downsides/drawbacks?
How is it offroad, and in hot climates, say deathvalley...?
@InternationalHarvester looks like you're the one closest to me. I'm in auburn) whats that rate to get it tuned and is there a 89 octane tune?

I think you mean TIP IN. Yes you will have a pedal that will now respond when you want it to!

There is no downside. I have had my truck off road on many trails in Cali no climate issue's truck operates at normal temps.
Your tuner can give you all the answers to your questions. Make sure you ask if your not sure about something!

Today I was lucky enough to get my ecu updated and KDMAX 6, LT/reg installed by @Mooseditty17, Thank you! Good guy. I didn't have shifting issues like some, but holy cats this is great! I stomped it on the highway and it took off. Also able to break the tires loose from a stop. Thanks @PapaRee and testers. Well worth the 3 hr. drive one way.

I think I like “toe in” way better because because with the tip in I feel like I can use 1 toe to push my gas and I rocket away
