vF Tuner for the 3.5L Tacoma

Does this mean we need to re-buy the same tune pack every time we tune a new vehicle???

 

Not necessarily. But there will be some changes.
The point of a tune pack is to flash your truck with it or other local trucks. Not redistribute the tune pack around online.

When changes happen there are reasons.

Just like all tune packs are being converted to VFC. We have people who don't even own vf tuner out there selling tunes from tune packs. Only because old reg keys work on VF Flash tool. A side effect of that older software which we don't control licensing of.


To be clear though. Any change we will make, will be very fair. But the point of the change is to stop people diverting from properly licensing vehicles and files.

 

Maybe I'm not understanding but if they're VIN locked then couldn't the locked tune pack only be used on one truck regardless?

 

Not necessarily. The final changes are still being made, along with tune pack credits for auto downloading.

It won't be VIN locked as much as change in licensed.


We won't make any change that isn't fair for all parties. But we have to completely get people off of VFT and the old system.

 

With the move to VFC tune packs, do we effectively lose access to all of our VFT edits? No way to open up the vFT files alongside the vfc ones and transfer those changes over? Or open up a vFT edited tune and export it as vfc?

 

No. Nobody would lose anything that is VFT. You can still open VFT files right now. You can only save them as VFC.

The purpose of this is only to increase automation to get things moving quicker, and to stop shady people from screwing over VF Tuner legitimate pro tuners, dealers and users.

 

@MOC221_ I didnt screen shot the first attempt, but did the second.

So i did this, at 35 "mph" (blue highlight marks first attempt) and again at 45 "mph" (current map). I did not get any noticeable change/jump when crossing the speeds if calculated in KPH.

Its raining, so i couldn't go above 45 or 50 on my roads in the conditions. If these are in MPH then i would have to be traveling between 56 (first attempt) and 75 (second attempt) to notice the effects, which i never hit in either drive.

On 04A61 I am certain that the shift schedule maps are in mph, and I am pretty sure that the transmission throttle reduction maps are also in mph. I have nearly the same axes for this map in 04A61. I would bet it's in mph. Running 92ehatch's test and verifying a throttle bump would prove it, though.

 

im gonna try it again, lower in the range to try and capture around 30 - 40 mph. possibly with more bump.

Question for you guys… I’ve decided not to OVTune my truck at this time, but I’ve already purchased the 3.5 Tacoma tune pack. (I just never bought VF tune and cable)
Can this be resold/transferred to someone else wanting the tune pack? Nothing it really tied to my name/truck yet.

The tune packs don’t quite work like that. They don’t “tie” to anyone specifically at all(yet). Generally, if someone wants to tune themselves, they would have to purchase the software and cable first, unlock their VIN, then use the tune pack to flash. Mat may be able to help with a refund or some kind of transfer, but he’s been feeling not-so-great on top of dealing with, what I’m sure is, hundreds of support tickets every day. There may be delays to the support that you’ll need.

Otherwise, trying to sell it to someone may be stepping into piracy territory. It’s a tough situation for sure, but I’m sure @OVTune or maybe @tonered might be able to help?

just tell us what ECU ID you want it for and you can do whatever you'd like with it. nothing has changed as of now.
