Thanks I'm going to take a look at this tonight. Definitely could be it as it just seems like there isn't enough tension holding it closed.

Do you regret not having windoors? I have a good deal nearby on a topper with only sliding screen windows. Wondering if I'll wish I had windoors and regret spending much more money. I also have a DCLB.

I don't regret it. I have a Leer with the sliding windows. If you open all the way you can still reach back quite a ways. I would rather be able to vent with the sliders anyways. Some companies have windoors with vent sliders but the Leer ones look so bad

Nice, that’s good to know. Looking at hard caps because I have a softtopper and honestly never care to have it off. Especially come hunting season, I’ll actually feel slightly more comfy leaving some gear inside on public land. I do realize it’s not much more secure, probably more of a feeling.

I was just talking to a local truck accessory rep last week and he recommended the ARE over the Leer simply because the ARE has much better customer support should anything go wrong. According to him, Leer makes you jump through a lot of hoops to get anything covered. I was asking about the "windoors" and he said they do have some issues with leakage but not a major problem. He said the same about the walk-through rear door on the ARE (about an $1800 option). Still haven't made up my mind yet if I'm going to do a topper or not. If I sell my hunting cabin and property this year I will probably have to go back to sleeping in the truck occasionally when bow hunting or fishing. My first Toyota truck was a 1982 RN38, SR5 (back when it was the highest trim level available) 4x4, std cab, 6ft bed, straight axles front and back, 2" lift, with a Brahma topper. I spent many a night in the woods sleeping in the back of that truck. I miss that back-to-nature aspect of hunting and fishing.

Does anyone know anything about ATC shells? Local dealer has one in the showroom for my truck (same color and all) that they've had for a while. Carpet lined, flip down front window, cab height with sliding window screens and asking 1000 bucks. Is that a good deal, considering they're a less reputable brand?

When looking at shells, don't forget about Snug Top brand.

They are not as prevalent east of the Mississippi, but a very good quality shell. I had to drive to St. Louis to get mine. Well worth the trip.

If I had that option right now I'd take it. The ARE or Leer with sliding windows are both about $2500 new. With the windoors you're looking at about $3000-$3200 new.

I called a local truck accessory business while shopping for my shell. They carried ATC and Legend shells. I asked for a quote on each and salesman told me not to consider ATC. Didn't even give me a quote on one. Just my $0.02

That’s the kind of stuff I was afraid of. Thanks for sharing. It appears you get what you pay for. Maybe I’ll keep the softtopper until I score a Craigslist deal!

Try for the side windoors too, especially if you do a platform of any kind. Crawling over things to get to the front sucks. Not so bad if you don’t do the platform but still...

IMG_20210320_151506.jpgWas able to get better pictures now that it's warming up, and with the summer wheels on!

Got a Ranch Sierra XTRA with sliding, flip down front window and windoors.

Question for people: is it possible to convert a double T-handle rear window into an electronic lock?

I think my biggest regret is not getting a topper with an electric lock. It wasn't an option with this model.

Caps in Canada are quite a bit more expensive that those in the states unfortunately.

As far as I know only single handle allows power lock. Leer dealer told me that. So I'm waiting for my Leer 100XR with power lock . Truck caps are crazy expensive in Canada and can vary in price from dealer to dealer. I checked all my local dealers and on the truck cap I ordered the difference was around $800.

    You're correct
The dual t-handles don't support power locks
