Hi there, I am brand new to the forum and a first time tacoma owner. I actually put a deposit down today and will be receiving my new trd offroad in late May! Cement colour.

I was wondering what people's thoughts were about dealership accessories? What are some of the "you gotta have this" or "if you want that dont get the dealership to install it use a third part retailer".

I live in BC on the west coast, similar to Washington climate. I am more of a flyfisherman/camper than a serious offroader. However our logging roads can create some serious challenges.

Sorry mods if this was posted in the wrong forum.

Afaik, LED headlights and tonneau (if you're into that) are the only must have dealer / factory add ons. Everything else is usually better off getting after the fact for cheaper.

The bed mat is about 140 CAD "installed". I don't know what the actual OEM price is but for sure that was an option I want. My knees can't handle the ribbed liner

Didn't see anything on the toyota canada website for LED's, I wonder if that is an American option. Ill have to check on that.
I will be adding a canopy for sure.

Yeah you're probably good. I got on offroad and was adamant I didn't want any options. Everything I've added is heaps better quality and more attention to detail on the self install haha.

I wish I had port installed bed LED lights, my truck didn't come with one and I didn't feel like wiring it so that's one thing I wish the distributor had installed it prior to delivery

The bed itself is quite slippery too, your cargo would be all over the place without the Bed Mat, it's a bonus that it will save your knees also.

What i wish I would ask from the dealer as part of my negotiations were below
    - bed mat
    - TRD Shift Knob
    - Lock Tailgate ( luckily I got this one for free)

Everything else i would order aftermarket.

    Congrats on the new truck

BedStep and BedLights if you don't have 'em.

My wife would file for divorce if I didn't have those bedsteps... hmmm perhaps I should take them off .. ;)

I concur with @Screaminpotato on Weathertech Floormats - got mine in last week and they are super good.

The wiring for the bed lights is already there. You can pick up the bed lights on Amazon or the dealership and it's plug and play. The hardest part is removing the tail light housings.
Just clarifying for posterity. You can lock the tailgate with the key, but there is an optional add-in to allow you to lock it remotely with the fob.

Congrats on the purchase OP, and great color choice! I've been able to find a lot of the dealer add-ons on Amazon or ebay for a cheaper price as @Screaminpotato said. Just drive it for a while and decide what it needs. I like the bed mat, and for the few times my pooch is riding in the bed I'm sure she loves it as well, but it 100% depends what you're going to be using your truck for whether it's worth it for you or not.

Yes - I meant the keyless entry for tailgate. It doesn't come standard up to 2020 MY in the US

The oem led headlights aren't available here, except on the Pro and Limited I believe. The bed mat is a definite need,or you could cut a horse stall mat to fit.The tailgate lock is a little pricy up here..approx 250 for the kit,and I think the dealer wants a couple hundred to install..I installed mine myself..no big deal.

While not all OEM accessories, here's things I've added that are quite useful and I would recommend:

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Congrats! Very jealous of your cement color. Those are impossible to find here in the KC area.

The only dealer upgrade I'd recommend is the LED headlights. But you said those aren't an option on Canadian Off Roads, so that's a moot point.

Everything else is better purchased aftermarket.

I'm a "stock" kind of guy so all of my add-ons have been purely cosmetic - TAC side rails, mud flaps and an incredibly useful console organizer tray.

I like the OEM all-weather floor mats, but can't compare them to Weather Tec or anyone else's.

Still looking for the right tonneau cover. Leaning towards an aftermarket tri-fold type. Not paying Toyota prices for an OEM cover. Once I get one, I'll get the $50 LED bed light kit from Amazon.

And that will probably be it for mine. Love the stock Off Road wheels. No interest in bigger wheels/tires, a lift kit, heavy duty skid plates, Pro grille, etc.
