Anybody here have a lockable gas cap? My previous car you had to push a button on the inside to open the gas door, but it seems on my tacoma anyone can access the gas tank?

Anybody have a gas cap they recommend that's lockable with a key? Or am I overthinking things here, maybe i don't need it but I'd rather have it than not have it.

I've never had an issue, but I know options are out there.

I had them for past vehicles and always had issues with them. The check engine light would always come on and a few times I had issues getting it off. I wouldn’t bother.

Stant 10504 like @TA2016. No problems after 2 years and 70 fillups. I put a TRD red carbon fiber emblem on it though :D

The cap is larger than the stock cap, so the stock lanyard doesn't fit. You can use something like the Meso Gasshole.

The lock can also seize up after a while. I spray the lock with teflon spray before each winter, at the same time I'm doing the tailgate lock.

Interesting, why does the check engine light come on with an aftermarket gas cap?

If the O-ring on the cap doesn't seal fully, it can leak during the vehicle's evap system tests. This can happen with lower-quality aftermarket gas caps, locking or not.

Man if only I could figure out away to create a locking gas cap that was somehow tied into protecting your cats at the same time I could make a fortune.

Yeah, anyone know why Tacomas do not have locking gas cap? Even Corollas half the cost have.

Impractical to pass a mechanical cable because the cab is separate from the bed, and Toyota is too cheap to put in an electrical solenoid.

What’s the point? Don’t all new vehicles now have anti siphon devices?

What’s a stolen gas cap worth nowadays? $2? Glad I don’t live somewhere where people steal anything and everything that isn’t locked down. I sure wouldn’t be driving a nice $40k truck around there.

Thank the Gods I live where I don`t need a Locking Gas Cap.

In my Experience they have been nothing but trouble here in the Northeast !

Frozen in the winter not just the lock cylinder the whole gas cap.

    Mad girlfriends and super glue

Maybe things have improved in 30 years

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic. It's all about keeping the hood rats from pouring unknown substances in your tank.
