FREE MOD Double Cab Rear Storage Space

Just to let anyone know who has a double cab with the rear seat plastic storage boxes, take em out! LOL

I pulled mine out when I was installing my subwoofer box and you would not believe how much more you can fit behind there. I have a rather goodsized hard cased roadside kit and had to leave it sitting on my rear seat because it was too thick for the plastic inserts. When I took em out I could easily fit it and had another 2inches of space.

IMHO you would be better off buying a behind the seat organizer that you can hang tools on and then store other stuff along the bottom rear wall.

If anyone is interested its really easy to tear those pieces of crap out. There are a few U-bolt anchors behing them that have screws. Take those out and then just give it a good pull to loosen the rivets and BOOM you got way more storage space in your truck.

I just threw my old ones out.

No I did take any of my rear wall and my subbox is custom made and in there real tite. It is very easy to take them out and if you decide you can install them. Takes about 5min to pull em out almost just like removing a door panel you can put them back in if u choose.

 

How do you pull them out? I have never even thought about doing this, sounds like something worth looking into.

 

If I remember correctly there are 4 screws that anchor into U shaped welds on the back wall. So unscrew those first. Look for any other screws on the storage bins as I cannot exactly remember if there are more... its been a year. After you are sure you have all the screws out start from the top left side of the rear wall where the two bins come together and give it a good firm pull outward. You should hear some of the rivets start to give. After that just work your way around the edge until it finally lifts out. It it very simple to do I wish I could remember exactly where all the screws are I think there was 6 total not sure though.

If you have removed any of the door panels for speaker intall it is almost the exact same pulling out the bins as the door panel only you gotta pull a little harder to get the first rivets to give.

Here to help if I didnt put a sub box behind my seat I would still have tossed the bins they really take up more space than they hold LOL they look nice but wheres the functionality?

Haha well someone needs to do it and take some cause mine have been out for over a year! And I am not pulling out my sub box.

Its simple if ya do it take pics and post for others. I was just putting the idea out there cause it is much roomier.

Ok now i get it. I really thought that you meant the bins under the seats. I wonder if you can remove those also. They seem like they are a waste of space. I would like to atleast take one side out to fit more stuff underthere. But as far as what you did. Is it possoble to just take out one side of those bins behind the seat?

 

Do you still have the plastic bins or did you throw them away?

To anwer Stratton, Yea you can take out the bins under the seat as well. I saw some photos of a guy running wires under there and he took them out. As far as the rear bins go yes you can remove just one. On my truck the rear passenger side was side that contained the smaller bin and the driver side had the larger one. There is a place where the split and overlap you should be able to see it
