Hi. Sorry if this is a newb question, but I have tried to search for the info and couldn't yield any results.

I have a 2011 Taco DCSB Prerunner and it came with the 245/75r16 tires. Are the factory speedometer settings the same on my truck as it is on the TRD versions with 265/75r16 tires? I just want to know if Toyota actually has different speedometer settings for the different tire sizes. Thanks in advance for any help, and happy new year!

To answer your question. No. I have the same as you and compared to GPS I'm slow about 4 MPH. Here's a good tire calculator that'll show you the differences.

My speedometer is off 3mph with the factory size tires, 265/70/16. Guess Toyota does this to all their Tacomas to Kill our warranties faster.;)

your ODO will ready true, but just the speedo is off from the factory. still in their "tolerances". apparently the loss comes from a digital/analog conversion where the ODO and speedo differ. no need for anyone to panic:goingcrazy:

Your speedometer will never be perfect. It's not the speedometer's fault. The difference in circumference from a new tire to a worn-out tire could be up to 4%. You lose about a half inch tread (1 inch total diameter) during the life of the tire. If you were the manufacture what would you calibrate your speedometer with? Worn, new or somewhere in between? I wish car manufactures would go to a Doppler motion sensor which reads the speed of the surface moving beneath.

No panic here. I'm at 74,200 on the odo. Speedo was off by 5mph with the worn BFG's went 2 weeks ago and put on new Firestone Destinations AT's now off by 3mph. Guess it's a nice to have some allowance there for times the foot is heavy.

I'm a newbie and recently noticed that my 2011 TRD Sport is off by 3-4 mph. I'm actually going 3-4 mph slower than the speedometer indicates (according to my Garmin). So it's off by 5 or 6 percent, depending on what speed I'm travelling at. That means my gas mileage is basically 5-6 percent off (less mpg) also, correct? And when the odometer reads 100k, it'll really only have 95k? Do you think the dealership will recalibrate it? It's only 3 months old and not to sound anal but I paid almost 2 grand for a 100k extended warranty. I don't want to feel ripped off if at 103k my transmission goes out, when really I only have 98k on the truck.

interesting... my obd speed, gps speed and speedometer speed are so close I couldn't say the gauge was off at all. I mean, if it was meant to be super accurate it would have hash marks on it. Its marked to be accurate within 5 mph. Tire pressure and wear and brand can all put it off a couple mph at speed.

THere is at least one company making a device to correct speedometers in vehicles like this. Its an inline device that interrupts or generates the proper signal once you've told it where you are and where you were.

I would like a techie to explain if the ODO is seperate from the SPEEDO... As the rest of you, my speedo reads 68 or so, when my GPS says I am going 65. I do think the odometer reads true, however... Maybe not?
