Anyone have suggestions for how to get my Archer t6E to be found? Tried in both PCIE x1 slots; then in the x16 slots(that worked for some people online). I double checked drivers I am trying to use is correct (win 10 64 bit) That card and my mother board both were new around the same time. Asus z 270. Green light on adapter is lit up, Cannot be found from TP link drivers or in device manager. Really trying to avoid wiping the computer to see if its some junk file interfering.

It does yes, in the past I’ve always been able to use Ethernet connection but that’s an unknown for when I’ll be in a dorm this fall. I’m unfamiliar with other network connection solutions.

Are you good with Linux at all? Fire up a live CD/USB and see if the card shows up. Then you'll know if it's a hardware or software problem.

disabled LAN in BIOS. No luck with drivers finding the adapter. I had an ethernet cord plugged in and now I am not able to connect to internet via Ethernet. That's due to disabling onboard Lan right? And I have 0 clue with Linux how any of that works. I'm also still not picking it up in device manager. green light on the card is on. It's in a x16 slot right now since people online said that worked for them with this card. I'm getting to the point where I may just get another card. I've had this one for 3 years and never actually NEEDED it until a few months from now.

So Windows troubleshoot program says no driver for a network adapter can be detected, but when I run the program to install driver for TP link it can't find the network adapter. So The issue may be the TP link Driver install wizard wont detect the network card but windows cant find drivers since TP link cant detect and allow me to finish install?

Yea on the TP link site I used the updated windows 10 supported drivers. The most recent drivers for that card specifically. And the install wizard still does not detect the card itself so I am pretty much done. I'll just try a different one that cheap. I won't have crazy fast internet in the dorms anyway so don't need a card that supports high speeds.

yea that's also why I'm straying away from TP link on the next one. Nothing helpful was found and the live chat person took upper of 5 minutes per response and insisted that after turning on my computer, to restart it without making any changes prior to reboot.

I've only tried TP-Link once. It was a WiFi card for my old laptop. It had a strange problem, it would identify as a different card on reboot. Maybe 1 out of every 5 reboots, it would identify as the correct card and work. Happened under both Linux and Windows. Got a replacement and it still happened. Never tried TP-Link again.

Yea I bought it a few years ago but didnt need it instantly so I bought cheap. I'll maybe need it in fall in dorm rooms so I'm trying to figure it out now. Going to just get a usb one thats got good reviews and a better known brand. Dorm wifi will suck so not like I would take advantage of a super nice wifi adapter. Probably something similar to the one @Silver02Taco has got. Keep it simple and not mess with the PCIE slots. will be easier to troubleshoot should anything go wrong.

This probably doesn't help, but my 8 year old TP Link DWA-556 has been slowly failing me for around 2 years. Been fighting it massively the last 6 months to the point of lost connection and card not identified. My only solution has been to reboot the machine (sometimes multiple times). I think it's time to replace your TP Link card with something better.

Are you concerned for wireless because you think your dorm doesn't have wired ethernet? Unfortunately my college experience is quite dated now (12 years out), but we all had wired connections in our rooms and no wireless available.

I'll be in an apartment complex thats being used as school housing this year. 4 bed 4 bath suite style but I have no clue what kind of ethernet ports there will or will not be. Just having one ready in case I do need it. Easier to take care of now and have flexibility than mess with it later.

4 bed 4 bath suite? Man things have changed.

I had a single room with a roommate and communal bathrooms with stall showers and shitters on unisex floors until I moved off campus. Still had to share a shitter but at least I had my own room at that point. If this apartment is governed by the university you can probably contact housing dept to ask about amenities. If its an off campus private rental than you're right in setting up wireless.

    Quick question.
Was playing GTAV the other night and shut down most resources including a graphic change somewhere.
I remember the page had 3 tabs at the top and you unchecked all tabs to get better performance. So all my gui looks blocky. WIN 10. It was kinda like dissabling the aero function in Vista?
I can't find it to save my life.

Anyone have issues with downloads through STEAM taking forever compared to actual internet speeds. I'm getting 35(speedtest.net) down right now which isnt crazy but I'm only paying for 40. Steam download is only running at 3.5 down for Dirt Rally 2.0. I had a similar issue with Blizzard client when downloading Destiny last summer. Blizzard client I saw online is known to be slow. With steam is this normal? I can understand that it's reliant on steam servers as well, but somewhat upsetting my console can get better download speed than my computer when downloading through steam.

SpeedTest.net shows your internet speed in Mega BITS per second.

Steam shows download speed in mega BYTES per second.

For bits to bytes divide by eight. 35 / 8 = ~4MBPS steam download speed.

Knowledge. Makes more sense. 4 megabyte loss is more realistic. appreciate it.

Steam servers also like to "test" your connection. If your speed isn't consistent, it'll tend to throttle your downloads to compensate. I know people with gigabit connections who only see a tenth of their download speed because their connection is all over the place depending on the day and time.
