There is apparently a harness ground under the drivers seat where pointed. Anyone use it?

 

I'm using a threaded hole behind rear passenger seat (in DC). I scraped off some paint from the face of it, and it works well for me.

It's behind the battery, not visible in the pic.

 

In the design phase for my first dual battery setup, and THIS comment about winch power got my attention, as I am running a Warn 9.5xp currently. I know it has been a few years, so I am curious how this setup has aged and if you ran into any issues?

 

Anyone install a fuse panel on the passenger side of the engine bay (over the top of the ABS module) as opposed to the drivers side?

 

Most people do driver because most wires will come in through the driver side fire wall since the switch will be near the driver

 

Winches are high current draws. So short wire runs are king. In a Tacoma your closest battery is going to be the main (unless you do a side by side setup). Either way you will also want to make sure the batteries are linked together through the ML-ACR (or similar) before starting a pull

 

I realize that, however I have a catch can and a SC coolant reservoir on the driver side, hence why the only spot I have left in the engine bay is over the top of the ABS module.

 

I have been considering it, but have not built a mount yet.

I also have a catch can, and a supercharger waiting to be installed.

 

what’s on top of the current fuse box?

 

I’ve seen a few. The other reason for the driver’s side install is shortest possible cables from the battery but some install in the cab or bed so there’s no real limitation.

I put a hinge on mine with a wing nut. Couple of turns and I can get to it.

EDIT: honestly if you're blowing a fuse or having a relay issue, there's a problem some where else....just saying.

 

Yeah but it’s there for a reason...ditto. It’s tempting and I see it plenty but its not for me either.

 

I prefer to run ground returns rather than scraping paint and having to upgrade the chassis ground to the battery. For in-cab stuff I use a common buss w/#10 back to the battery for the low-medium draw accessories and dedicated returns for big stuff but there are threaded holes all over the place, mostly M6 and M8.
