did you ask them why so many miles?

i had mine driven up from albany to plattsburgh when i bought my truck because they didn't have an the build specs i wanted in the north country. i've had it now for 15 years and 290k miles. the miles i bought it with were acceptable for me since i knew why those miles were on the truck.

When the time comes, you (and/or a knowledgeable friend) can do a clutch fairly cheap. There's deals online with free shipping and no sales tax all the time.

    9091002103 10 $ 6.69 Clutch Flywheel Bolt
    3125035481 1 $ 111.27 Transmission Clutch Friction Plate
    3121035310 1 $ 189.05 Transmission Clutch Pressure Plate

If I were to test drive a car, I would put a minimum of 50 miles on it just driving it home and taking it back. Putting 150 on a car doesn't take much. I have had dealers offer for me to take a car home and bring it back the next day. It isn't uncommon.

I agree with @malatx that you normally would be able to negotiate off for that reason, but in this economy you are lucky to find one at all.

If you want the truck, who cares, just buy it. Ask them to throw in a few extra oil changes if you are really concerned about it.

My 2019 had a little over 200 miles on it. It was transferred from a dealer about 30 miles from the dealer I bought from so that's in the numbers. I never gave it a second thought, but do remember hearing you could ask for mileage reimbursement if the OD was over a certain number.

    Good morning!

I read with great interest the differing point of views that have been brought up so far and I really appreciate you all taking the time.

I can't fathom how any dealer could justify the use of the vehicle in any manor other than dealer prep, be it for demo, dealer use, loaner, whatever. Did the selling dealer do a vehicle swap with the originating dealer and therefore the vehicle never made it to the selling dealership's transport? If this is the case, then it's possible the vehicle was driven to the selling dealer and on the way there it was noticed that an issue came up, drove/transported the vehicle back to the originating dealer, went into service where nothing was found, then made its way back down to the selling dealer. Yeah, speculation, but the only thing might be considered acceptable to put this kind of mileage on a vehicle that's spoken for.

I keep my vehicles for a while; both an '01 Tundra and an '11 Sienna I ordered from the same selling dealer in '00 and '10 respectively. I break in my vehicles; brakes, transmissions, engines, fluids, etc, and all are given proper break in and changes. Out of warranty, I perform most any maintenance or repair and knowing the complete vehicles' history assists with this.

So unless the VIN has been swapped or I got the incorrect one from the salesman, the originating dealership used the wrong VIN for the (customer complaint service), it looks like I'll be reordering the truck. Again, thank you and your input has made this decision easier to stand by - I'll let you know what happened.

Not that I would be thrilled, but 400 miles, probably lots of highway, is very different than 200 around town miles on a manual

How much are you paying? If the price is the same as another truck with no miles on it and it concerns you, buy another one. If they are discounting this one because of the miles and the money saved is enough to allay your concerns, buy this one.

    Don’t overthink it.

A Co worker of mines husband bought a 2021 several months ago and was reading forums about the toyota rust issue. This was his 1st new vehicle since buying a 2005 Tacoma brand new. Being worried about what he was reading, he went out and dropped the skid plate and started looking only to find that the frame had a 3-4'' (I saw the pic and it was bad) crack in it and tons of rust. Granted this truck was new off the lot and he had only put 400 miles on it and never drove it in the rain. There was a ton of surface rust already on the frame and around suspension parts. I think the cracked frame may have come from it being strapped down too tight on the hauler causing a weak rust point to give and crack.

He took it back to the dealership and after about 2-3 weeks of dealing with them and corporate, they eventually took the truck back. He also looked at several other trucks still on the lot and they had the same rust but no frame damage or cracks. The dealership offered him another Taco as a even swap and even offered him a Tundra which he declined as it wouldnt fit his needs plus the extra gas usage. He ended up losing on taxes and 3 payments he made as the dealership wouldnt budge on refunding that but the truck is back on the lot with the frame damage on it.

After buying my 2021, the purchase agreement had an addition. My truck was suppose to get Ceramic Coated. When I took it in, they put me in a similar optioned 2021 loaner until mine was done. People could have also test driven the truck you're about to buy.

    Somewhere hot, flat and brown.
Always amuses me how people here can freak out about such little things and run away toward a ridiculous conclusion like “200 dealer miles, so the clutch may be completely toast from abuse!”, but at the same time these trucks are bought, loved, and sought after for their do-it-all reliability and toughness.

I’d bet my truck or any other vehicle I own that a new, untitled vehicle on a dealers lot with 200 miles on it is absolutely fine. Geez...seems like abject panic around here unless you modify every last bolt on part and then treat it like a faberge egg.

mine had 153 miles. Was a dealer transfer. My clutch now has 159,000+ on it. You are over thinking it.

I had 23 miles on mine when I took delivery and 10 were my test drive. 200 sound excessive but wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

I used to work at a VW dealer. Dealers arent taking new cars out for joy rides or even lunch. They dont want miles on them for just this reason. Demo cars are for employee use, but those rack up a couple thousand miles before they are sold. If you need to take a car for lunch or whatever you take one off the used lot.

200 is a bit high and I would think dealers would be careful about miles on a new car. My Tacoma had 4 miles, and my 4Runner had 15.
