Probably not many. I'll bet it mostly people looking at other brands of MT as well and want to test drive the Tacoma MT.

That would be an awkward experience, to walk in to a dealership, having never driven manual previously. I feel like the sales rep would be a little nervous after someone starts bucking the clutch and revving way too high. When I test drove my gti, manual, I got yelled at by the dealer when I lackadaisically applied the brakes, which were way stronger than my previous car, we all felt it. She reiterated to me that, that is not how we test drive cars, blah blah blah, I said, dude it was an accident these brakes are strong. And I wanted to be like, well why do you leave it in sport mode for test drives? When I drove the Tacoma I was shifting real low in the rpms, I think the sales rep was like well he’s got a lot to learn. But again it had 3 miles on it and it’s way bigger than a gti, I just wanted the keys so I could go home. I honestly wouldn’t have test driven it, I had 952 miles to go.

That was in reference to the dealership using the truck to drive around town or run errands.

if Toyota wasn’t refusing to warranty low mileage clutch repairs, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but they are refusing to cover the clutch work. There for, I would want something to make up for the potential damage done to the clutch.

that’s not even getting into the fact that the OP ordered something particular and maybe be getting someone’s regret or rejection.

for what it’s worth, my truck had 1 mile on it when I picked mine.

I just assumed that when dealers do trades nowadays they just hire a flatbed transport, I guess it depends on the price of the car? I met a woman that totaled a dealer trade (she was the driver) after she stopped at Applebee’s for lunch, had a couple of drinks, blacked out and woke up in the ambulance. Over a hundred on the 41 in ca. Lots of dui classes after that one.

    Somewhere hot, flat and brown.
Who said either (a) there is clutch damage after 200 miles, or (b) that Toyota is refusing to repair it?!?

Does anyone here really, I mean REALLY believe that a new truck on a dealer’s lot with 200 miles on it? Come on man, there’s simply nothing wrong with it.

If you’d prefer to walk because you really want to be the first human to fart into the seat, sure...that’s personal preference. But all of this talk about damage and total meltdown with no Toyota support for what’s really a brand new Toyota product? Wow.

Unless it’s long distance, hell no. They’ll send a porter out to drive it back. Flatbeds cost money.

I agree wholeheartedly with these comments. I just got a 2021 a few weeks ago--first time new car purchase and I was VERY pleased to only see 5 miles on the odometer. Then again, my first gen had 230k when I bought it!

I plan to keep this truck a LONG time, so I def babied it for the first 1000 miles per OM break-in procedure. I would personally be concerned about how it was driven for those first 200 miles. Unless you're one of the many Americans who buys new and then dumps it after 3-5 years...in which case, probably not a big deal to you then.

Some would be surprised actually how many times that's been mentioned in TW about the sea LOL. I see both sides, but if I'm dropping $40k on brand new instead of buying used (what I normally do), I would want it brand NEW and exactly how I expected. Plus, it's the wear items (not covered under warranty such as clutch and brakes) that would get most affected by neglectful driving in a 200 mile span, not damage to primary components.

I purchased a Sportster with 250 miles on it and found that the clutch was fried. The original owner did not know how to drive.

First great name, even better band.

no one be is saying there is damage, but no one knows who or how many drive those miles. These are not miles used to deliver to the OP or perspective buyer.

if it was an auto, I would be way less concerned. But you better believe that I am using it to get a better price.
How much do you lose when you drive a new vehicle off the lot? I am doing every thing I can to keep that amount smaller.

and even with less than a mile on the clock, you can not guarantee yours will be the first fart the seat will smell.

Back about 1983 we wanted to buy a new Camry only thing available was a stick. Salesman said "if I can teach your wife to drive it will you buy it." I replied Yes, then they drove away with him telling me, "get your check book out I have a 100% success rate" back about 20 minutes later a crying wife and a pissed off salesman telling me here she's yours and hopeless. I don't think it went well.

Apparently you throw a lot of money away please throw some my way. The whole point is it’s suppose to be NEW and it’s around 40k. 200 miles to you and 200 miles to me are 2 totally different things if the dealer is unwilling or unable to explain the miles. Sorry not trying to poke you brother:thumbsup:

I don’t throw away money at all. Why would you say that? I’m just saying come on...keep things in perspective. 200 miles is less than a damned tank of gas! It’s nothing! Hairsplitting.

How many people love these trucks (and boast gladly) about hundreds of thousands of miles and epic adventures without anything breaking - and rightfully so. Now there’s concern about a clutch melting down after less than one tank of gas due to miles that could have VERY likely been from a couple benign test drives and a porter driving it from one dealer to another for inventory swap? I mean really...there’s just no merit to that argument at all.

Next comes the “rare” and “limited dealer supply, so RUN to the dealer and give them full MSPR before 5 other people do!!!” fears. Well, if that were all true (which it isn’t) then again, is 200 miles a big deal if they’re soooo rare and hard to come by? No.

Like I said before, if you absolutely MUST be the very first person to put a fingerprint on the screen or fart into the seat, then sure, point taken, but that is a pure personal preference and none of that other stuff matters all.

For the record, my truck did have 11 miles on it when I bought it. I got lucky and found exactly what I wanted sitting on a lot semi-close. If it had 200 miles on it would I have done anything different? No.

Oh, and my bet still stands...

    Yeah.
Dealer trades are a normal thing. I used to work make-ready at a Nissan dealership when I was 15, and they actually had me drive a couple of them when they were in a pinch (they weren't supposed to, but they did). These are usually just across town, but 50 miles is not bad, many are longer.

With possible test drives and a dealer transfer, it would be normal to have some miles, and the receiving dealer probably had it checked out when it arrived. I wouldn't worry.

I’d call that a barging chip since it’s been driven by someone for the purpose of demo or etc...

I would ask for $500 off my original agreement or wait.

There's a lot of anecdotes and "well mine had X and was fine" going on in this post. If you have nothing to lose by walking away from the deal, walk away. That should be a rule for all large commitments/purchases.

This isn't the last truck in the world; if you can wait a few more weeks/months why not go with your gut?

I bought a "new" Sequoia in February 2005 that had over 300 miles on it.......still have it to this day. One of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Sure, the miles gave me some pause, at the time, but it was the vehicle I wanted (A SR5 4x4 with leather, which was pretty rare to find on a SR5, and I did not want the rear air suspension that came with the Limited trim). Point being, and as others have said, if it is the vehicle you want at a deal you find acceptable, I'd not hesitate to buy it.
