    This^^.
But I'd go for North Carolina. Living in NC I'm probably bias. But here's my reasons.
    • Both the Beach and the Mountains.
    • As stated Weather is moderate. Go North cold winters. South hot Summers. NC right in the middle.
    • Taxes fairly low except for the gas tax.
    • People generally very friendly
    • Jobs are everywhere. "We're Hiring" signs on every street. Voted Best state for business 2020 by Forbes magazine.
    • BBQ, Lexington NC. One of the top 5 BBQ towns in the country.
    • Some of the best Universities in the country. UNC-Duke
    • The Blue Ridge Parkway.
    • And most important of all! NC gave the world upload_2021-4-12_12-24-12.jpg

Sorry I haven't read every post. I live in NE, and it's a pretty good place to live and work, i.e., good quality of life. The economy is gangbusters here and a fair number of new people are moving in, so housing prices are going up, but nothing compared to CA or CO.

If you like to hunt and fish, and who doesn't, can't do better than SW Wisconsin. I lived in the La Crosse area for 10 years and would still be there if it weren't for work.

I grew up in the Chattanooga area, and would recommend it as well, if you don't mind heat and humidity. I hear it's getting pretty crowded there, but still much better than Atlanta or Nashville. Very scenic and with a lot of recreation.

I came here to say this exact thing. The WV highlands are awesome! Thomas/Davis is at 3100’ ASL so you get all 4 seasons and have them mostly to yourself. WV is underrated in a big way, we’ve got just about every outdoor hobby available. Several breweries and coffee shops in this part of the state too if you’re into that.

The general consensus I’m getting here is that everyone thinks their state is the best. Or at least pretty great. But no one wants anyone to move there.

Good luck OP, let us know if and when you land on a place.

Cost of homes. I'd love to end up out there but looking at states with super cheap houses for sale. Seems like as long as it's rural Maine has some cheaper stuff. We're definitely going to go out there and explore. I'm not driving all the way across the country to not go to the tip of Maine! Also my girlfriend apparently can't deal with extreme winters, even though they don't really bother me. From my understanding Maine has some pretty extreme winters. Correct me if I'm wrong?

At this point West Virginia is literally my first choice, granted only from what I've read. Outdoor haven and literally the cheapest homes in the country? Count me in! Apparently also an insane depression and opiate issue statewide. Honestly though it seems like most places have something bad about them. I live in southern Oregon and Medford where I work is well known as Methford. Amount of meth out here is ridiculous.
Upstate New York was on my list until I saw the taxes. Why are property taxes more than the mortgages themselves!? Insane!
I'll be posting biased opinion updates during my trip so you all hear my impressions about your states! lol

    Learned how to use MultiQuote!

The tip of Maine is awesome. Rocky shorelines, bald eagles and if you time it right, you can see whales from the shore. Campobello Island is a trip but unless they open the border, Canada’s still closed..

Being native to Pa. it is a beautiful state. Outside of Phila, Pitts and the more densely populated burbs. That said, I have been to Colorado for a few ski trips... I'll take Colorado. Only draw back is that it's land locked and I enjoy salt water fishing.
