Pens got Jeff Carter. Supposedly for conditional draft picks. I don't mind the depth at center.

Can he play goal?

 

Boston did great in the Hall trade, though if anything it shows that Hall wasn't getting a first round pick from anyone. Lots of rumors that he's toxic in the dressing room but who knows. Also the Lazar throw in I find interesting. He isn't great but he's one of those players a lot of teams have tried to rehabilitate based on his skill set.

 

2 of them are oft injured and their 3rd is essentially their 4th, so at least 1 more.

Honestly this tells me Andersen is possibly done for the season. Big save Dave is an upgrade over Hutchinson, at least in consistency, and Campbell will be the starter to finish out the season. Hutch is now the Taxi squad goalie which is fair for now.

 

What's crazy is that with the IR moves Dubas has made and Nylander on quarantine for a while he still has 2.8 million to play with. Supposedly the Leafs are in on a D man too.

 

I wonder if he isn't just depth. Kapanen was put on long term IR yesterday. Carter, even at this point in his career, is still a top 6 guy, so they didn't get him to play anywhere else in the lineup.

 

I just read an article in the local paper and apparently Hextall has Carter marked to play a bottom six role. I haven't seen much of Carter since he played for the Flyers 11 years ago. I guess his production and worth have declined that much. I don't know how well he plays defense, which is a hallmark for a bottom 6 guy. My recollection was, not well. The Kings are going to pay half of his $5.273M salary.

 

It feels like Dubas bought everything the Leafs need for a run. Gritty leadership 3rd line center so we don't have to play Engvall? Check. Above average backup goalie? Check. Depth Dman? Check. Defensive forward help? Check, with a bonus body that didn't cost any cap space and might be the best actual per dollar pickup.

To the folks online whining we should of got Hall, he didn't want to go to TO. He didn't want to go to a Canadian market. His name is being dragged through the mud still over his time in Edmonton. The media wouldn't stop questioning if he was the toxin that cause Buffalo to go downhill. He had a NMC, and it's come out that Boston was basically the only spot he wanted to go since it's close to where he is already, he can turn into "the guy" for them if he can find the net again, and they have a legit shot at a championship to rehab his image. Plus, honestly, the Leafs don't need more playmakers. Marner, Nylander, and Galchenyuk are all setup guys with fairly elite level skills. Another top 6 player doing the same thing wouldn't add to the team like a grit guy would, especially since our worst slump directly correlated with losing Simmonds for a few weeks. The Leafs need those guys more because they don't have a depth of those players on the roster already. Nash and Foglino are great trades IMHO, exactly what TO was missing last year and is still missing this year.

 

I look at him as basically an upgrade over Jankowski. Plus, he can, in theory, play anywhere in the line-up
