Did Toyota change the e-locker on the 21's?
I am about to purchase new ring and pinions but are now not sure which product to purchase. The setup I see on my truck looks nothing like what have seen on all other off roads. It's a TRD off road. 20210412_180406.jpg 20210412_180418.jpg 20210412_180359.jpg

    same shit as everyone else
My understanding is that 3rd gens without an e-locker have the same 8" axle and diff carried over from the 2nd gens and the 3rd gens with an e-locker (Pro and off-road) have a newer 8.75" axle and diff.

The 2nd gens WITH e-locker have an 8". The NON-elocker was the larger setup.

I thought the e-locker actuators got moved inside the diff or something with the 3rd gens, or maybe they did away with it for something else. But anyway that's why you don't see an actuator on the outside of the diff like you would on 1st/2nd gens.

    It's a 4x4. I guess it's not new. Appreciate the input.

That's the old version with an electric motor driving a rack gear and fork. 3rd gen uses a new version with a direct actuating solenoid all housed inside the diff. Much mo' better and robust.

As was stated earlier, the 2016-on differential locker is an electromagnetically activated unit, so there is no external motor on the diff.

The 2016-on have three types of rear differential, 8.0" (for automatic without diff lock), 8.8" (for manual without diff lock), and 8.8" with diff lock.

The 2005-2015 Tacoma uses an 8" with and without diff lock. Some people at one point declared that some were larger because they incorrectly measured the ring gear. They're different, but they're not larger.
