not sure what your budget is but if I didn't already have a million 18V Makita tools and was just getting set up I would buy the Makita 40V Max line

That’s where I’m headed. My impact driver and hammer drill are about done for, thinking of beginning the transition.

 

I'm going to get the 7 1/4" Circular saw first

 

Scott Brown Carpentry on Youtube has done a few Makita 40V Max tool reviews lately , he's a New Zealand builder I follow

 

My 6 1/2” is only two years old, can’t justify it yet.

I have the brushless 6 1/2" , built my whole shop with it except for when I needed my 16" beam saw

 

My vote is Makita or Milwaukee. I have many, many 18v Makita tools. Very happy with all of them. Milwaukee would be my 2nd choice.

 

I have the same 18 volt brushless 6 1/2”, it does great until I start ripping plywood for half a day.

 

Damn, are you breeding them? They keep multiplying.

Client where I had my timber stash stored sold his house so I'm moving it all to my place tomorrow

 

I'd have bought the house just for that lumber.

Serious note, how did you go about acquiring and over what time period. Is it not that that big of deal in Canada? Strikes me a something you leave to your kids.

 

I bought all the timbers at once in 2008. When the economy shit the bed back then my local lumber supplier bought the entire timber inventory from MacKenzie Sawmill in Vancouver so he had tons of timbers available for cheap. I think I paid under $6K CDN for all of it.

Not sure about the rest of Canada but locally in BC , getting timbers like this is not usually a problem availability wise , just depends how deep your pockets are.

I've been using timbers out of this stash for projects since purchase , I mill them down as required if I need different dimensions .

The client I built for that let me store these timbers in one of his outbuildings recently sold his property so today I had to get them all out into the driveway so the crane truck can pick them up tomorrow and bring them to my shop site.

That was a lot of work for an old man by himself lol
