Maybe the thud is some sort of reaction to the transition of PI to DI.

If PI is that much "further away" from the cylinder because it's at the intake ports, and DI is DIRECT-ly (haha) into the cylinder and *typically* gains in fuel economy and power can be seen, perhaps that transition immediately nets a bump in power that is felt as this "thud" you're referencing.

Whereas the transition for "both" to just one source of fueling (the DI) is perhaps not as jarring or noticeable, going from two sources to one...?

that was my thought which is why:

1- i run the SFOB file (i have played with both)
2- I changed the mix % to keep it in DI or as close to it in the range i typically accelerate from (2k rpm+)

I remember when we were gonna have more DI until someone complained a lot and it went away :(

He's not wrong. Ruined it for all of us.

I've been reading up on the KDMax tune. I'm assuming they utilized increased DI in order to achieve the results that they did (i.e. smoother acceleration through the rev range, increased MPG, etc.) I have been tempted to give their tune a try, but I'm holding out for 2.0 performance. A lot of dudes are comparing 2.0 with KDMax, but one is a base tune and the other is a performance tune, so not really a direct comparison.

Based on what @92ehatch is saying, and everything else I've seen, increased DI is the way to go. Hopefully Mat can make this happen when 2.0 performance comes out.

my main goal this whole time has been "smooth"

I have said it before and will again. I would gladly lose a few ponies and torque if it makes it smooth.

That same person is balls deep in the kdmax tune, nothing has really come up about PI/DI

Afaik, the kdmax tune looses some hp/tq (don't quote me) but is infinitely better to drive than stock.

I "heard" it may lose some low end torque but gains some high end HP.

Im already in a situation where i feel that my MT is smoother than anyone elses....but thats just me being biased

the throttle feels more filled out across the throttle position range. it is the first time this Tacoma had a factory pedal feel ever. so factory that it is weird just cus I'm used to an extremely peaky ride that i need to manually control with my right foot continually.

but the peaky thing, which became a misery on my truck after a recent round of exhaust work, was also showing strong surging power trying to come up all the time. now that the peaks are gone the whole experience is more tame. I'm just not used to being relaxed driving the thing. and i do kinda miss the 2nd gear boom, but that had become too unpredictable to consistently get after the exhaust work.

relative to my tweaked version of 2.0, i do kinda miss the getting-it-right moments on 2.0, but it had become too difficult to get them, so i had to change the tune.

It really does boggle the mind how bad the stock tune is.

Imagine the shit I would go through if I dared to release a tune that produces less than stock. (not saying any tune out there does, that's what you guys are saying)

The current result of Base 2.0 is the result of feedback from this forum.

2.0 Ultimate Map switch Final doesn't take opinions from anyone.

If Mr. DI expect V hasn't spoke up adamantly about any *possible* loss in torque ( I'm not forming any opinion on the KD or any other tune) it's just proves the bigger troll he is.

There are some dips in the low end power on KDMax 4.0, but the top end gains are there... We did have a throttle stumble which was present in the graphs and was ironed out in 6.0. We aren’t perfect, aren’t scared to admit it either.

This graph was our 4.0, but 6.0 hasn’t been dyno’d yet to be completely honest... we’ll re-hit the dyno soon.

    Awesome!

@PapaRee has fixed some of these already in KDMax 6.0

It does show OVTune 2.0 with a similar dip as well... does that mean you’re going to release a new tune pack that has these fixed incorporated?
