Dealership might try to use mods against me

Can my ditch lights or fuse auxiliary box that I have them connected up to be at fault for my actuator acting up? I took my truck to the dealership today because I had a 2WD-4WD mode change malfunction error. I got mods on my truck (ditch lights, intake) and I feel like the dealership is going to use that against me and not warranty the repair.

How can they prove my ditch light/fuse box setup added to the actuator problem? Would that even make sense? Seems like BS to me.

Usually if they dont want to look into it they will say its caused by X mod. But, if the failed part is no where near your mods, then they shouldnt have a reason to deny you.

It shouldn’t be an issue. Any history of deep water or saltwater crossing ?

You should be good unless you got one of those evil dealerships . Worst case they charge you the diagnostic fee.

Don't worry about it until there is something to worry about. There is nothing you can do or say to change anything right now.

They don't have to prove anything. If they deny warranty, then it's up to you to escalate to Toyota. If THEY believe mods could have caused the problem... it goes to court.
Good luck man. There is a good story in the sticky threads above about the Magnussen Moss Act and how it really works and the time and money required to prove you right.

Wasnt there a bunch of people modding fog lights or headlights/driving lites that caused alot of fuckery on the 3rd gens?

Agreed 100%. Might as well worry about whether your insurance covers meteor strikes.

Give them the opportunity to diagnose it first, OP. Maybe put "Que Sera Sera" on your next playlist.

Well they haven’t denied the warranty repair or even mentioned the aftermarket mods yet. At this point it’s neurotic speculation. Why fuel the fire? Cross that bridge if it even comes up.

It’s in service. They called me and told me if any of my mods are the cause I’d have to pay the diagnostic fee or whatever. And I guess the repairs.

I’m just trying to figure out how my ditch light/aux box are related to this issue if they even are at all just in case I need to save my ass. I don’t know how they could be. An actuator going out cause of my ditch lights?

Maybe they are just cautioning me? I don’t know will see what they say when they call me back tomorrow.

I'd assume (if anything) they'd somehow say the circuit has a short in it that's due to the installation of the aux box...in reality, it should be a separate stand alone circuit altogether.

And your response to that should be "How? Explain what caused the problem and how my modification is to blame."
If they want to claim a mod broke something on the truck, they need to be prepared to prove how the mod caused the failure.

Insist on specifics, not just vague bullshit like "it caused a short"... Caused a short in what? Which circuit was shorted? How did you determine there was a short? How did you determine the modification caused that short?

Tacomas are very sensitive to voltage variations. Again, good luck.
