Front end clunk when braking, or low speed tight turning

    Morning everyone,

I am trying to find the source of a noise and was hoping to get some ideas.

This mainly happens when I brake semi hard, the nose dips, and it clunks as it rebounds. So not when I brake, but when I fully come to a stop and the truck rocks back a bit. I can recreate this driving no problem, but cannot recreate it by rocking, pushing, etc. It also sometimes happens when turning tightly, like out of a parking spot. I know it happens turning left, but I don't remember it happening going right

I think it happened once or twice on the highway when I really had to hit the brakes, but it is 99% of the time coming to a hardish (ie not just coasting) stop at a light, stop sign, etc

It has happened a few times going over low speed bumps like speed bumps but again, I can only recreate it 100% when stopping, and the truck rebounds

I can heard it, but I also feel it. I don't recall feeling it in the steering wheel, but I can feel it in my feet. It's clunkier than just the brake pad clunk some people have

I also do not have a front sway bar, but it kind of feels like a sway bar bushing clunk

When I jack it up and wiggle the wheels, everything feels tight. My UCA bushings have the tiniest bit of play. Skid plate is tight too but I'll double check. I did do a fairly quick inspection (Both wheels off, wiggled a bunch of stuff) but plan to get under there after work for a more thorough inspection, but I was hoping to get some ideas.

I have read a lot about the front radiator/cab mount bushings and will check that, but I don't think my symptoms quite line up

    Thank you everyone!

    Quick edit for more detail:

    Definitely from the front end

Happens in neutral, 2WD, and 4WD

Only happens when stopping going forward, does not happen going back

Happened before and after alignment but I will check my cam bolts

No suspension changes recently. On 5100, OME 885s from last year, noise started in last month or so

Came down hard on my front during a ditch crossing, but noise did not start immediately after that, few weeks later it started

Ball joints are tough to check on these trucks, with uppers you have to compress them down, so pry on the spring and push the arm downwards.

Lowers you need to compress up, so jack under lower arm and push the tire up with a bar.

A lifted 2005 I'd be looking hard at the BJs

Thank you! Any chance you could give me a more detailed explanation? I apologize for my ignorance, I have not done control arm work before and am having a slightly hard time picturing this

It sounds like I need to take the wheel off to do this but you mentioned pushing on the tire

    Edit: Anything like this? https://youtu.be/SkHeDQomX0k

I feel pretty dumb, but it was my passenger side LCA camber bolts, or whatever the alignment bolts are called.
I could have sworn I snugged them up to the 124ft-lbs or whatever is called for, but apparently not

The pin on the caliper that holds the pads gets rusty and makes a pop noise on first hard stop of the day

    BUMP.

Dealing with this on my '13 Taco. 227,000 miles. UCA and struts replaced last year with Bilstein 5100 and OME coils. StopTech Tundra brake kit installed last Summer. My guess is the new big piston brakes may have gripped so hard that the camber bolts have loosened due to the repeated jolts. I pull a 3600# boat up and down a mountain and have leaned on the brakes pretty good from time to time. I get clunks when braking, letting off brake, turning at low speed and reversing. I've also started getting light rubbing when I turn in reverse. I'm taking it in for an inspection and alignment next week.

Update: It was my hub assemblies. Brakes still clunking.
