Made a slider adapter of my hi lift, need to drill a hole for a pin and then paint it still.

We made big progress on the camping/road trip setup this weekend! The bed frame is pretty simple, but practical in that the rear support fits between the wheel wells, allowing the whole setup to be pulled out in minutes without any awkward tilting or lifting.

Instead of trying to build in a drawer, we opted to split the bed platform into three panels which can be lifted and slid out of the way to access storage underneath.



A full size memory foam mattress topper fit great with only a small amount of trimming.

My girlfriend took on the crazy task of tying a cargo net from scratch as the Amazon net was way too big and she really wanted to see that idea through, that turned out great as well!

All that's left to do is finish the curtains, get the roof rack sorted (long story ) and we're ready for our shakedown trip of a week camping in the UP at the beginning of next month!

 

Loaded out. Maiden voyage . made it to Idaho Oregon tomorrow .

 

Well, here's to hoping that I get more than 7-10K miles out of a set of spherical bearings. I've already replaced them 3 times in the last 12 months.

I only got 5-6k out of mine, I just swapped them last week.

 

What wall thickness steel did you go with ?

 

.125" Wall, not to sure on what it is beyond that. The original plan was to build the whole thing out of wood, but when we showed up at my gf's dad's shop to cut everything he went all dad mode "I can design this better" haha.
I'm glad he did, the whole thing isn't too heavy, and it's definitely sturdy enough. The steel we used was what he already had lying around the shop for other projects, so I didn't ask any questions when he offered to to trade the 2x4's we brought and help opening the pool for the steel we'd end up using . This was my first time meeting him, I think such a generous deal is a good sign

I think I’ve finally found an acceptable location for my cell phone. I bought a wireless charging phone mount back when I had my ’05 Gen 2 Taco and I hated the two mounting options that it came with. The CD mount was not very ridged and the phone obscured my aftermarket stereo controls. The AC-vent mounting option was even worse. I couldn’t get that to even mount correctly.

When I bought my ’03 PreRunner I could make the AC-vent work but it wasn’t very rigid, would work itself loose over time, and the phone blocked some of my climate control and stereo buttons.

What I ended up doing was buying a mount (non-charging) that attaches to one of the cup holders. I rarely use the larger cupholders nearest the dash so I gambled that I could removed the phone holder from the mount and that the socket & ball sizes would be compatible. IT WAS!! So now I’m using the base and stalk from the newer one with the charging phone holder section from the older one and it’s perfect! It’s more rigid than the other options and the phone location doesn’t obscure anything. I can still access my shifter, e-brake, and controls. It’s also far enough from my leg to not be a problem and best of all I can rest my arm on my thigh and it puts my fingers right at the phone surface.

My new to me 2002....120,000 miles. What I've done in the last 2 weeks since purchase???
Replaced timing belt, all belts, A/C compressor, pulleys, water pump, etc.
Repaired faulty SS airbag module.
Epoxy painted spare tire wheel, spare tire carrier, and rear axle.
Repainted AL wheels back to silver.

Next up:
Valve cover gasket replacement + coils, spark plugs and spark plug wires.
Replace rear springs and shocks

Mid term:
Repaint (it's a clean truck but has some scratches and dings I want removed)
New tires (current ones are new but I want something a little more aggressive)
Possibly new wheels (thinking 2002 era 4 Runner or T100 wheels - Aluminum)

 

For the people that have the occasional hook up with P0420 code,

Does it seem to pop up more when you’re just cruising around 2 tracks on the mountain than it does normal highway/freeway miles?

Had it pop up twice over the weekend, I hadn’t have to delete for a couple week prior.

 

Bend right now gonna push to the Newport area for a couple of days .
