Winch Line Kink

So, I was skinning a deer earlier this year, and managed to put a kink in my winch line. Can I still use it, or do I need to scrap it and start over?

i get kinks in my wrecker winch all the time,just keep tight tension on it for a while mine fix themselves . i hold cars up in the air withem.

 

or happy medium...op it can fix it self and shouldnt serve a problem, but save up and buy synthetic line for your next mod?

X2, kinks/fraying of the line will greatly reduce the strength of the line. Getting a synthetic line like others have suggested is a better idea.

 

a wrecker line (speculating here) has to be a much more heavy duty line than an average warn winch. Spend the 100 bucks by synthetic. Winch lines snapping are no joke, it will cause at least 100 bucks worth of damage if not serious injury. Sythetic lines, if snapped or cut, can even be tied back togeather with a special not with no lose of strengh, they are stronger and safer.

Anyway, I have a cummins 5K# winch that I gave $50 for. So, for the extra money, I think I may just pick up a Smittybilt 8K# for $300.

 

I was laughing at the guy correcting the typo with another typo (or misuse of English) too.

Rule of thumb is 1.5x. My double cab is just under 5k so minimum winch size should be 7.5k. I would say you would be better off with the 8k. I just ordered a refurbished 9k Warn winch yesterday.

Bought a refurbished XP9000i from the Warn Factory store for $700. http://www.warn.com/store/refurbs_all.shtml. The shipping was $95 which I choked on a bit. I could have bought a new one for $935 at GoWarn.com with free shipping but decided to save the money and go with the refurb.

I have to ask the obvious. Are Warns THAT much better than the others? I mean, 4WP sells the Smitty 8K for $300. That is pretty cheap.

 

its kind of a point that can be argued for ever. I bought a warn because when you need a winch you need a winch. All my friends have smitty builts and other brands and they have never had a problem. I would say if you do alot of wheeling that requires you to winch in, or plan on getting stuck alot then go warn. If you have a winch for the "just in case" it doesnt really matter. Get a snatch block and follow the 1.5 rule and you should be good
