When I was a kid I reached under a rowboat we had to flip it over and grabbed a red wasp nest. Bad, bad deal. Still feel it like it was yesterday.

I've gotten into several wasp and yellow jackets nest in the barn, on the tractor, etc. but the main 2 I remember, one was on a skidsteer I had and they came in the back and ate me up on the head and arms. The other was I got stuck on a four wheeler on a piece of wood, high centered the rear axle and was rocking it trying to get off. I had shorts on and got stung 17 times on the left leg. That was a bad day as well.

If there is any redeeming quality of living in the north. It's not dealing with many bugs or reptiles that want to/can kill you

Yeah, I got on top of the in ground nesting yellowjackets one time when I lived in town push mowing, looked down and had a cloud of them on me. Waited till dark and turned my gas can up in the hole.

Just gotta be handy with a shovel now and again. Copperhead below and the video is of a big black snake near where I killed the copperhead. I leave the black snakes alone because they eat vermin and other snakes.

I replaced a garage door opener this weekend and there was a nest started on the wire to one of the door sensors. They work fast - the day before was probably the first day nice enough for them to be out and I only had the garage open for a few hours.

I am just far enough north to not encounter copperheads. All I've ever seen are garter snakes--they tend to be really timid and just get away from you as quickly as possible.

I'm in bed about 90% asleep and hear a "clank" sound on the nightstand -- clank  WTH was that... turn the light on, the wife has this glass thing (junk) and it is leaning forward against the lamp --- how in the ... !!

Me: "WHAT THE HELL! -- A SNAKE!" (I vault out of bed at this point...)
    Wife: "are you kidding" (sleepy)
    Me: "NO I'M NOT F---ING KIDDING - IT'S A SNAKE!! (wide awake)
Wife: "ok" -- (Rolls over and pulls covers over her head)

Well, I got my heart rate down below 200, got gloves and a pail and escorted Mr Snake outdoors....Snake on the nightstand...

Bad thing about copperheads is they will not move. They just lay there and wait for something to walk by for a meal. People step on them and get bit. I killed 3 here and none tried to get away when I approached. Almost stepped on this really big one in my front yard. He was laying inside my landscape timbers and I backed up and bumped it with my heel. If he had been on the other side, I'd have been taking a trip to the ER.

I suppose dealin’ with a Copperhead is nothin’ compared to that “one eye’d” Rascal She’s used to dealin’ with. :D

Me too! My buddy who runs the powdercoat place rented one for the week, an 11,000 lb machine. However big that is. He’s having some drainage issues at his house and putting in a ditch with some large rock.

Looks bigger than it actually is. There usin’ it to remove material around the new piles that just got sunk. That building is the original water pumping station for the city & where they officially measure the water level of the Red.

11K would be a mini, like a Bobcat E45 or Caterpillar 305. That one looks to be a 315C which I think is a 36k.

But, I'd still find plenty of uses for an 11k, for sure. Probably more than I'd find for a 36k, actually.

Too bad some of the Cool Old machines got canabilized. I was some pissed about that. It was supposed to be a historic landmark but you know Politicians. They always promise what they can’t deliver.

Pretty sure I'm the only guy in my subdivision who foam cannoned his tractor tonight.

Also pretty sure neighbors think I'm odd.

    Truth be told, I think they're odd.20210407_180814.jpg
